Play Mode

Before you start to use MotionKit, it is strongly recommended that you enter a username so you can retrieve all your projects and settings, see Username.

On the homepage, double click the Arpix Multi icon to open the corresponding instrument.

Once the instrument loaded, you are switched to Play Mode.

4 sections compose it:

  • 1. Menu Bar,
  • 2. The instrument (Arpix Multi in this case),
  • 3. Volume and recording adjustment,
  • 4. Tempo adjustment.

1. The Menu bar

Once in Play mode, the menu bar contains icons allowing several commands and operations.

Starting the audio engine. In MotionKit, you have to activate the audio engine to have fully working instruments. To do so click on this icon or press the spacebar.

Return to homepage. If you want to switch instrument or exit the application.

Saving active instrument. If you modify an instrument and want to save the changes, click on this icon. Don't forget to enter your username in the homepage to make sure to save your personal copy.

Zoom modification. To modify the size of the individual graphical objects, you can zoom in/zoom out them. To do so, first click on the object to modify and then adjust the Zoom using this icon with the mouse.

Resetting the Zoom. You can come back at any time to the default value of the zoom. With a single mouse click on this icon you will reset the zoom of the last selected object, double clicking will reset the zoom of all the visible objects.

2. The instrument

The main panels of the instruments

This field indicates the interface of the instrument. On top of adjusting the set of parameters, most instruments have common features which we will discuss in the following chapters:

Instrument parameters

For example, in the case of Multi Arpix you can adjust:

  • pitch The overall pitch.
  • speed The dropout rate.
  • reverb Reverberation rate.
  • bank A...F The sound banks.

In the following chapters, we describe specifically all possible options for each instrument.

Volume and audio recording

Zone for adjusting the volume of the instrument. It also saves the result as a sound file (wav, mp3) for possible reuse in another application. We will see that it will be possible to directly send the file by email in the Audio recording Recording section.

Tempo

Some instruments, called « synchronized », feature a tempo adjustment area that the user can vary according to his desires.
