For 1st and 2nd option: It depends, what you want. I think, its Joffos addon and he dicided to do it the first way...

@ Joffo: You use the "peak follower and threshold" patch to detect the peaks. This works quite well with rhythmical stuff like drum beats.
When testing it with more melodical samples it doesn't detect the "beats" (I mean the different tones in a melody) correctly. I was working on a peak follower not only with a threshold, but also with an analyse of the waveform to detect even little peaks. But it doesn't work well. It sets the peaks a bit to late. I'll try to improve that, so also melodical things could be seperated in slices. Also soundfiles with crescendo and decrescendo.
Even though this kind of detection also only works with sounds with an attack in the beginning. Swelling sounds won't work :-(
I'll have a look at this. It could also be usefull for others.

I'm asking myself what append if the step duration is shorter than the interval between the two markers, may be we should add a test on that ?

nb : I haven't uSine here to test the last patch version, I'll try ... this we :(

I tested it for a while an its really great work!!

@gdlive:

I tested your version too and also your subpatch :) you made a good working approach!
When testing it out, I found that it would be better to seperate attack and release, since I recognized more crackles on the end of each slice. I tried to set different values and integrated a range fader in your patch for doing that. So you can get a hard attack and a long fade e.g.. (I tried this with a Vibraphone loop which has a very long sustain)

I propose a updated version, with an ASR declenched and calculated for each step and taking in account pitch to avoid clics (when len pitched sample < len step). I spent time to retreive a formula to calculate pitched len, but it seem's ok now. :rolleyes:

http://www.sensomusic.com/forums/uploads.php?file=realtimeslicermodifvolume.pat

You just have to set the ratio of A+R for the step (or let default value (I set 4% for ex.)

Waiting for your comment's, if it's better or not.

A+

real time slicer
This is a real time slicer inspired by sergio slicer.
With it you can rec audio from input card or sampler. it makes detection of
beats during the recording. when you finished it instantanly make a beat with slices. you can generate a random pattern, modify pitch reverse and multiply or divide the tempo. Enjoy and give me your impressions !
