one other note, I can see a recieve window in the midi in. I can't select it (if it's a button).

No luck yet. Enabled the input (was already so) and did not have "all patch of the rack" selected. it is now. a change I've not noticed is that now I get a notification that usine is recieving midi messages in the log. tels me if it's a CC or a PC and what channel etc. however no joy on the amplitub...
