...hopefully not! Headphones only at home, I'm afraid.
I installed v1018 and it worked fine and I liked the new features, although I think I noticed some quirks. Since I'm in the process of integrating Usine with Reason, both controlled from my Ozonic, I haven't really been trying to check out new features or checking whether the "quirks" are bugs or just me doing something wrong (again).
I'm not quite sure if I could detect any improvement of the CPU usage though. One thing that really is strange (and this is not new in v1018), is that the CPU rises alarmingly when the audio engine is running and the Global Remote window is opened. Right now I'm not sure (at work...), but I think it sometimes also happens when assigning MIDI to patches.
For those interested(?), I like to tell something about how I'm trying to use Usine: I'm mainly a guitar player but have been dabbling with synths etc since before MIDI. The setup I'm working on is mainly inteded to be used by me when improvising together with a drummer friend of mine.
I like to set things up to have as many possible ways of controlling and playing stuff with as little hassle as possible - and still not loose track of what is going on in the PC - and then change it on the fly. The possible number of control destinations in both Usine and Reason are of course vast, and I can't possibly keep track of too many, so I've been doing quite a bit of thinking to end up with a combination of what parameters is controlled from what Ozonic program. At the same time this has a been a learning process, and some of the patches have been redone once or twice since I realised I had been doing things more complicated than what was neccessary.
Yesterday evening I think I got most of this "framework" it set up correctly, and tonight I'll add and tweak patches making my shiny new "super-mixer/mangler/synth/sampler" ready for jamming tomorrow! It'll be fun, I'm sure!
So long, and get more sleep than I've been getting the last few days!

a fot controller with midi? and maybe one of those midi controller pickups for guitars? and a midi translator program? or some translation methods in usine?
can usine handle sysex?
can usine handle sysex?
It seems to that Usine could handle any form or MIDI message as long as you're willing to code.
I do have a foot controller with MIDI signals sent to a patch bay, the pre-amp and TC Fireworx, but I think I'll stick to my present setup and keep that MIDI setup separate, just routing audio into Usine. I don't have any MIDI guitar, and it's been ages since I tried one. Actually, it made me sound like I could play keyboards...
What I try to achive, is having as many possibilities at hand with as little effort (aka button pushing) as possible to do the sampling/MIDI/mix thing on the fly, so as not to interrupt my guitar playing too much. Unless I'm actually playing the keyboard of course...
The method I've used, is setting up a number of programs in the Ozonic controller/interface with quite a lot of common CCs in all or some of them. For instance, the output level and Aux1/2 sends for the first four Usine tracks are on the some faders and rotaries in all of the programs, so I can change that no matter if the other controllers are assigned to controlling Reason.
Except for the normal keyboard type of data - NoteOn/Off, PW, Mod etc - I've created patches in Usine with MIDI triggers that either sends something internal in Usine, or translates it to some MIDI data sent to Reason. By the way, I've used Maple MIDI to connect the two programs, with Usine as the master. I suppose I could have mixed MIDI from Usine with the "Remote" option in Reason - which automatically reassigns CC to the current device - but I prefer to leave that be and keep the overview of what's happening from Usine.

1.018 mission 1 succesful
Actually, Usine can't handle sysex midi Messages. The intern engine is ready for that, but I have no experience... I never use external expanders.
I need your experience!
Tel me what it could be interesting to do with sysex in Usine. It should be easy to implement.
Please, feel free to post suggestions about that point.

Hi,
after having loaded 1.018, I don't see the outputs B and C on my mixer track anymore.
Going back to 1.016 shows them again.
Where do I set them ?
thanks,
luca

i use my emu-mp7 for live performances. with the software i've created the mp7 is a controller. when i use midi ox as a midi translation tool, i send a midi message to midi-ox from one of the 16 trigger buttons on the mp-7 it then translates this midi message into a sysex message that i specify and sends it back to my mp-7. when the mp-7 recieves this message, it changes the controller configuration almost instantly, to make the 16 knobs and 16 buttons controll other features of the software.senso wrote:Actually, Usine can't handle sysex midi Messages. Don't worryafter having loaded 1.018, I don't see the outputs B and C on my mixer track anymore.
In the new version output buses are stereo by default. In you use more than 2 outputs modules the buses are transformed into surround automatically.
Try to put 5 out modules, for example.

What if I want to send a channel to multiple outs ?
Do I have to load addouts in the strip ?

as you can see in this image, when the first note, 74 is pressed, it sends a ctrl message on channel 14 and i have it set to chain to the next message wich is a ctrl message after a delay of one millisecond and the last message after a delay of two milliseconds. successfuly completing a sysex message.
the same for note number 75. the two values under the note 75 sysex message are a nother translation.

click the thubmnail for a better view of the image
It's exactly as before. Only the display mode has changed.Please clear me about this as I can't understand it.

Aux busses are still in 5.1
Just put 4 outputs modules on the patch to display the mixer output in 5.1

I have to find a way to edit a set of MIDI messages to send to the output.
Let me think about it

basicaly what it does is turn any midi message into any other form of midi message. and it is also chainable wich makes 3 part messages like sysex possible.senso wrote:thanks for explanationas you can see in this image

on your example, if I resume:
TEST : if you receive NoteOn 74:
--> Send CtrlChg 0 80
--> wait 1 ms
--> Send CtrlChg 32 0
--> wait 1 ms
--> send ProgChg 4
Actually, this can be done easilly by Usine, using the Create midi message and the Wait modules.
For small SYSEX, we can use Array module to record, store, send.
The problem, under Usine is for thoose larger than 2KByte.

A little note to laserbeak:
The MIDI output module seems (to me, anyway) to default to channel 1. That is, unlike in the other modules, when you need a constant value of some sort, the MIDI channel should not just be entered directly into the field, but instead come as input data, for instance in the form of the Const module. Is this a bug, Olivier?

Are shure of that?
the channel of the midi output module can be set to any value directly in the field (double click) or with a const value or whatever.
It'works on my system(s)

i'm actualy asking the same question in another post here http://sensomusic.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=100
i havent been able to test it cause i have my midi gear set up on my laptop wich cannot run usine the asio isnt stable enough.
-edit-
cant set up the midi gear on this computer yet cause there is no space at the moment.
The "wait one cycle" wait for a single cycle, generally 64 samples (1.5 ms at 44100 KHz)
Good suggestion, I'm gone add the possibility to set the wait time to any value.
