I'm in the middle of the preparation of a set for a live performance.
I thought it would be a good idea to share the idea of my setup.
First of all, I played for years with an arranger keyboard, I actually still use it, only it is used now as master keyboard for Usine.
The basic idea of an arranger keyboard is that you play chords with the left hand and melodies with the right hand. Since I played for years like this, I kept the same concept with Usine.
I only have 2 patches in my setup, obviously one for the left right and one for the melody played with the right hand.
For the left hand :
I have different piano rolls per instrument: drums, bass, pads,...
Now in each piano roll I put the sections that go together for the instruments (ex. File 1 is the intro, File 2 is the A section,....)
I use the conductor to activate and store the status of the different piano rolls for the different sections and put a note learn on each step of the conductor (Ex. C2 = Intro,D2 = Section A)
I think this setup has the advantage that, despite the fact that a lot is sequenced, you still have the occasion to interact with the song in a flexible way. If the crowd realy likes a section there is no problem to play it twice
What do you think of this setup ? Could it be improved ?
I'm allso considering to, for future songs, perhaps replace the piano rolls by wav players, which propable would be lighter on the CPU. But I'm not sure yet if it's worth the trouble.
