Ableton Link usine user module

Post by 23fx23 » 17 Dec 2023, 20:56

Sup guys'

So, as tittle suggests, tried to build some custom Usine tailored user module for Ableton Link Protocol.
*should* work with the 244+ daws/apps/HW that are "Link protocol" compliant, (like for ex Live, Bitwig, PT, Cubasis, Logic , Reason, n NI Maschine or MPCs hardware, ect..
(tho i only tested with ableton live atm tbh..can, and will check in BW later on..)
if want infos on protocol, supported devices/softwares..:

Quick explain/tutorial on idea/ how to set-up in usine video:

Link of first beta .usr 64 bits compiled usine module:

(win only for now.. wanted to 'beta' test it first , potentially have other users feedback, and maybe tweak/clean a bit more accordingly before potential 'official' addon^^
.. and i don't have a mac anyway :p, but better making it solid before *final port )

so would gladly hear feedbacks if any, hope can be usefull, cheerZ' ;)

Another question : is it possible to choose the number of beats per measure (3/4,5/4,7/4,11/4 etc...) ?
Or are we stranded on the power of two Ableton Live paradigme forever ? ;-)

didn't try tbh,
but i suppose could set quantum to beat as beeing the shared 'granularity'
both daws to whatev same sign, then quantize ply/stop commands to what want too i think on the daws

thinking back of it, problem is it would make phase out only go from 0 to 1..

so.. i could prob either make quantum param to be user set in arbitratry integer beat number
(did a combobox here for 'conveniance' like in my / prob most widely used case easy swich from beat, to bar or 2 bars)
then internally it used a power of 2 from that list choice to translate to 1,2,4,8,16 ect beats quantums.
but indeed that only make sense in the general 4/4 case..

or could keep it that way, but let man enter nb beats per bar yeah, and change internal conversion function, maybe better..
mmm will think about it
