Crackles and Noises
Hello there!
Just a little question...
I'm trying to setup Usine V5 on my Macbook (Early 2007) over a Bootcamp partition.
It seems to working fine at first but it begins to make crackles soon and can't work properly. It happens using maybe three tracks and one VST.
Remember to use Usine on my old PC with a lot of more VSTs and Patches without any problem.
Could be a problem by the configuration?
I would need to use the Mac to play live with Usine.
My machine is Intel Core 2 Duo (2 gb) and 4 GB of Memory and I'm running XP on my Bootcamp.
Thanks a lot for suggestions!
Cheers,
uge

Many parameters can cause audio crackles ,
In Usine, have you try different settings in the setup, for example the refresh speed and block size..?
thread number can also be set to 1 in old OS like XP

Thanks a lot for your answer nay-seven,
I was trying with these parameters with no luck, it seems to get better when I choose low refresh speed and block sizes values, but I'm still having crackles and clicks.
I'm going to try the same setup on another computer in order to compare. If maybe you think there is some other thing to try UI would be glad to do it.
Thanks again,
Cheers

Thanks in advance

Hey uge,
I have a 17" MacBookPro 2007 with a Core Duo 2.4 Ghz, similar to your specs and I find it far too slow for todays audio software.
I don't think I would want to use it live on stage. Especially the step from Core Duo to the more recent i3/5/7 CPUs makes quite a difference.
2007 is about 6 years old which is quite a lot for computers.
Another question would be, what kind of soundcard you use and what kind of VSTs - is it something like a simple delay or a CPU-heavy synth like Diva? If you use the onboard sound (with asio4all?) that could be a problem too.
You should have a lot more fun with even a cheap but current laptop with windows 8 64 bit.
Cheers,
Tom

Hey Thomas, thanks for your answer
Maybe you are right.
I've been considering the idea of get a new laptop for this days. The thing is that I've been using my old macbook on my gigs from 2007, running Ableton Live with some plugins without efforts. So, I think that I could to still doing it.
I always think about to make a new set with Usine, something different using the amazing tools that Usine contains. So my first try was to use it in my bootcamp partition with some patches designed time ago.
There is no heavy VST's, just a sampler, and a little sequencer. It happens with 20% of CPU. I've been trying Asio4all and an old M-Audio Audiophile that I have here. Strange.
The only thint that I'm considering aswell is ask to my girlfriend her Macbook pro 15" ...
newest than mine
Any other help always is welcome,
Cheers

hi there..
did you check your latency in general? maybe some running service is getting in your way..
http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml
and there are some optimizing guides floating in the web.

http://us.focusrite.com/answerbase/opti ... windows-xp
if you are not using gazillions of vsts, esp. convolution reverbs and monster synths, you should be running more than fine with your setup. the maudio is usb-driven, isn' it? i have a lenovo t61 running either an old terratec phase 24 or a mackie onyx 1220i via IEEE 1394. very stable and usable setup. be aware of usb controllers and such, as the drain cpu quite a bit.

Just be careful with those optimization guides.
Some of the things they tell you to do are not really a good idea in every case.
Especially the Sweetwater guide is know to have caused problems for many people.
If you have some knowledge about computers you should be able to decide yourself which of their tips to follow and which not (and how to revert your changes if things turn worse), but if you have little clue, I would rather ask a friend with more knowledge for some hands-on-help. Otherwise you can cause just as much damage as you can do good.
You can definitely start with setting your Power options to highest performance and run the laptop with the power supply connected at all times.
Cheers and good luck!

Thanks a lot for your kind replys.
It seems that deleteing the Main Usine folder and recopying a new one worked better. I know that is something basic but I didn't think in this.
Now it is working softly, although I note some little click sometime, maybe due to the computer specs. Also I've deleted the Asio4all install. Now using the Audiophile the thing is better now.
Is strange, but maybe could be something corrupt in my folder?
Thanks again,
Cheers

PD. I will stay trying it and tell you about.
