Hello !
I've got a new midi foot controller, the Nobels MF2, that I want to use with Usine, but I just can't understand how to set the external footswiches (8). Does anyone here knows this controller, and have some suggestions to help me ?

Thanks !

Hello daviche,

I don't know the MF2 (I'm using an ancient Ground Control myself), but I've taken a look at the user's manual, and from what I can understand of it the two sets of four jack plugs each (switches and expression pedals) operate quite differently. In the manual both sets are called outputs, but it would be more correct to call the expression pedal jacks inputs...

The switches will operate as footswitches, so that you eg. can turn external gear on/off with each program, while the setup of the expression pedals are independent of the programs, and are used to send MIDI CCs.

I don't know if this is of any help, but I must say that the user's manual for the MF2 is a bit messy. Both types of jacks have different setup choices - if you need some explanation of the setup routine, I'm quite sure I've understood it, so feel free to ask for more detailed explanations. But now I must get back to working...

Looks like a great product, by the way!

Yeah, I think that could be a nice way to control Usine while I play, but I agree, the user manual is really bad. And the problem is that even when I strictly follow te instructions, none of the changes I set up seem to be memorised. Of course, I turned off the memory protect !
So I think I'll try to contact directly Nobels...

Well, I'm afraid I wont be able tu use this foot controler as I wanted...
So I'm looking for a solution : is there a way to translate in Usine Midi program changes into CC ?

Here is what I want to do :
I'd like to use my old FC 50 to control Guitar rig on MIDI channel 1,
and I'd like to use the MF2 on MIDI channel 2, to control Usine's sampler, and various plugs. But I'd like to control them with the Program Change switches. For example, Record with PGM 1, clear recording with PGM 2....

Am I dreaming ?

hello
if your MF2 cand send program change , would be easy to use it
try the " create midi " module
chan = channel 2
msg = control change
code 1 = number of the controller you want
code 2 = value of this controller

now attach a button to the "create" inlet of the module and use a midi learn on this button with your program change message

must work...

Hi again, daviche.

If I understand you correctly, you basically want to use the MF2 as a row of footswitches(?). If that is the case, sending program changes should work find with Usine for toggling switches on and off if the MF2 resends the same message when you reselect the current program.

If however the MF2 behaves like my old Ground Control by filtering "superfluous" PGs (so that presets on the connected gear aren't recalled when it's not necessary - typically resulting in a muted output), this is not a very practical solution.

On the other hand, the MF2 has the "Funny Note Mode" which can come in handy. It's not clear from the manual whether you have to set it up every time it's turned on, but sending note messages is easily mapped to Usine's switches via the midi learn. You probably want to turn on the toggle mode on the control, though.

The expression pedal inputs could of course also be used to control Usine in various ways. You might want to try hooking up a footswitch instead of a pedal if you only need on/off behaviour. Some pedal inputs I've tried on different boxes would send out min/max CC values using a footswitch - while others don't like switches at all...
