Have a new gui?

I'm struggling with aspects of the current one on a 13' screen. I can see how it might work on a big screen but I'm struggling on my Macbook Pro. And the contextual menu system takes a lot of getting used to. And the colours seem like they could do with a makeover. Sorry but it's how I feel, most other aspects I like a lot!

Also is all that information necessary all of the time. Seems like the lack of menus is driving a mass of on screen information. If the IB worked a little more intuitively then I could understand it but patches are either one place or the other not both, so it gets really really confusing......

The "use floating windows" option in the global setup helps a lot for me when using a small screen. My only real gripe in this regard is the info/settings panel that is constantly in my way. Would way rather have the panel only show when I choose.

I miss regular drop down menus! Open a window with a click, select something, and then it disappears. Look at max. One big patching window with icons around the edges to open things when you need them.

And I miss contextual menus. An option to put the context menu (it IS a context menu after all) under a right-click, command-click or long click would preserve cross-platform compatibility, and still have the menu appear when needed and disappear the rest of the time.

I think HH would be a ton easier to work with on a large dual-screen setup, but all I have is a laptop :(

Intersting you mention Max. I am comparing Max and Hollyhock at the moment. I agree the user interface design in Max is AMAZING.
But everything else drives me nuts!

And Hollyhock... the user interface drives me nuts, and everything else is MUSICAL.

Max has a huge ego and Hollyhock is more about making music somehow. I get results with Hollyhock. I get a headache with Max.:)

Thanks for the tip on floating windows...it helps

When is Hollyhock 2 coming out?

New user here trying out the demo and yeah...the gui is sloppy. I have no suggestions at the moment though. I am making this post so i can start a new thread and post questions but would like to add a +1 for GUI improvements. Once I use HH2 more i may be able to make suggestions.

A significant portion of working with HH is about making YOUR OWN gui : ) so the sloppyness of a user designed gui for a patch wouldn't be HH's fault.

I would agree with question

You cannot approach Hollyhock like a DAW, because it isn't.
Hollyhock essentially is like a DAW instrument, and question is correct that many aspects of the GUI is in how you design.
In comparison to most DAW or audio utilities Hollyhock brings all the good elements with extreme flexibility and customization.
I wouldn't be surprised if more is to come in GUI customization.
