nb standard midi sync?
still a week newbie,
I couldn't figure out how to slave usine sync to any other daw/ext hardware, I tried enabling MTC and MMC , also tried the midi clockIII modules, but I could'nt receive the classic start song, stable tempo midi clock. I am missing something?
the clock III seems to receive tempo but not start/stop and tempo is constantly changing and out of sync. I ve read it's an attempt;ok;
but there should be a more classic like other daws midi clock core gestion (imo)
Ive made a quick search in the forum and found it was a pb for other users, has the pb been evolving?
...cause sadly it make the use of using usine's remote, sequencers quite..useless if out of sync on the daw/harware lfos?
what is strange is that when I press play on live, an electribe (sayed to deal in mmc) starts on the fly and keep the tempo right away,
whereas usine doesn't start/sync tempo when i press play..
do I miss something? if not is it planned to be implemented?
othewise i m using lot of fun with usine, but this seems to me to be quite a real big issue for the potential...
cheers

i know senso know this problem , i've an electribe too and we have talk about this ..
be sure he is working on..

ok cool, ill be patient, as i have many other things to test with usine...especially your synth module!
afaik slaving a computer is a bad idea anyway.23fx23 wrote:still a week newbie,

I would not know of any computer software that slaves tight to hardware.
this is not because of a lack of cpu power, its because usual OS have background threads running.
(still this is no excuse, my old amiga1200 slaves without problems (real multithreading!), also atari syncs tight).
workarounds:
- try with master clock, and slave the hw.
- new hw device: innerclock systems sync shift mk-II (does other things too, not cheap)

thank u amiga,
syncing in the other way (usine master, live &electribe slave) seems to work a bit better..
buti not agreei had a very stable live-electribe config in the two direction (also i check a lot dcp, running bg pgms), but even on a normal computer it works great..., im gonna try to investigate the modules too, but sysex is quite a real unkown for me...

- first: it is true, even the master midi clock preset does not work perfectly yet (latest version is quite ok)23fx23 wrote:thank u amiga,

- 'the two direction': so you had the computer as slave (press start on electribe, not on computer): be aware that the speed (bpm) of your songs do matter: fast song -> less stable sync. also the quality of the audio interface and/or midi interface does matter. cpu/ram of your computer does not matter (overall: I dont believe you had a rock solid sync with computer as slave, and optimization by turning of bg pgms/services does not much here)
- 'sysex': has nothing to do with midi clock
well, I offered my electribe to a friend as I want to go software only, so I couldn't check with the electribe, but Ive made the test with a korg zero 8 digital mixer that sends out midi clock and:
when i set the tempo at let say 150 bpm on the zero and press play(on the zero), ableton live instantly start and it's tempo is sync to 150.
beleive me or not its up to you .I just made the test.
if I change the tempo on the zero, ableton reflects tempo change quasi instantanely. Ive also tested only via software: cubase, reason and ableton can all be sync together (in fact any audio/midi daw that receive midi clock).
you might be right that a computer works better as a master than slave, but in full software side, any of cubase, reason, live ect can be sync as "slave" from other host, and it works perfecly., also I tried to play/stop and change tempo on the zero that is linked to live in slave mode, and no sync issues....wich tend to prove hardware midi clock can be well received by computer.
(zero use standart midi, no osc or whatever), but there might be some issues with some device I admit. (now I remember I prefered the computer master/ electribe slave as the other side was working a bit less, but with zero it seems to work perfectly)
(just for discussion, not arguing)
sysex ok hehe, you avoid me headhaches, I will inspect the midi clock modules and see..
anyway I ve plenty of modules to look at so I can wait for the issue to be fixed, I start to spend my night patching with usine wich is awesome!!!! thank you senso, last month i dreamt of it, now it's on my screen!

cheers

Is there a way to midi sync usine to my daw? My idea was to send midi out from my daw to usine tempo tap and for the audio i can use vstforx back and forth. or is there some other way that this is done please let me know.
this post is very ol fom 2009 lol
the latest hollyhock version has fixed the midi sync. i guess you just have to set your daw or usine as master, sending midi timecode and the other receving, using a midivirtual driver like midiyoke, or loopbe
