Hey everyone,
So I've cut my teeth the last month or so to test some concepts in Reaper, and it's just not working for my live/performance needs. Not a big surprise as that's not really what it's for, but it was good enough for me to prove out some ideas.
Before I jump into Usine (money is not the issue really, it's more about time...), here's two super critical things I need to be able to do. As far as I can tell (and I've worn out Google looking) there are not any VST plugins that do what I need.
So... Can Usine's modules, etc. be configured to...
#1: Perform input quantization from external midi gear? I need this to work like this: I set a beat division with a slider/knob (say 1/16), and when I play a midi note on external gear, it holds this note until the next time the master clock hits that beat division. This is super-critical for loop, midi delay, etc. to not get flamming. I rigged something up in Reaper that converted a note to CC for note value and another CC for that note's velocity, but it's a crap-show... Too much latency, midi timing drifts and locked together notes drift apart after time, etc...
#2: Build a midi note delay that works based on the time between two pad hits or midi notes. So I hit a pad, it plays that note, then I hit that pad again, it plays that note, and then it repeats with the distance between the repeats equal to the time between hits. I'd of course need to be able to set things like # of repeats, feedback/fade %, etc.
I don't need to know exactly how to do these things yet, but I don't want to spend a month with Usine to discover they were not possible...
So based on the above, would this be a GO or NO-GO?
Thanks guys
Quick capability check before I buy Usine...
1) yes every controls can be quantisized, or any data flow as well
2) yes this can be patched, somehing count time between 2 hits and apply this time to audio/midi delay or whatever time related module
2) yes this can be patched, somehing count time between 2 hits and apply this time to audio/midi delay or whatever time related module
yes they are very common things in Usine!
