I am using VIP inside of HH, which is a really nice combination.... VIP abstracts out all the differences between VSTs, so every channel is the same. It could be huge!
But I'm having issues with program recall. Basically my idea was to have a HH preset for each VIP setlist. Each setlist exposes 128 presets to the host.
But when I change presets, the preset list is not updating correctly--I'm seeing the same VST program list. (I saved with changed window positions to make sure the preset was storing and recalling correctly.)
AND YET....
If I have 2 different racks with 2 different instances of VIP, they both recall different setlists correctly when the WKP is opened!
Isn't this the same storage/recall method in either case? Or are there 2 different mechanisms that have just always had the same result up until now? Do you have any idea what might cause these differing results? Something VIP might not have implemented normally? I know there is communication between instances of VIP, I don't know what effect that might have.
Any thoughts, gurus?? I'd rather not hardwire specific instances of VIP to specific racks--that would cut way back on the flexibility of the system..... I've asked Akai too, but nobody is very familiar with HH.
Clarification about storing VST data....

I did ask their support, they said it works fine with other hosts.
Using an arcane VST with an arcane host..... who knows....
No demo, sadly.

If you do a lot of work with presets, and get confusing results, running 'Repair IDs' at the patch level often helps...

Address the process rather than the outcome. Then, the outcome becomes more likely. - Fripp
