Hy,

I am the vocalist of OPOSITIVO and we will soon present our first concert but before that I need to find a solution on stage.

I would like to know if Usine software can replace effect processor like Lexicon MXP 1 or TC Helicon machine on stage ? I need a maximum effects for the voice and control it with an interface, kind pedals, or, why not a Wii remote ;)

I need to adulterate the voice, very quickly in stage and have a lot of effects and filters ( De-essen, noise gate, compression Etc )

Is Usine the solution ?

I Have um HP FD 8000 (Centrino Duo 2GB RAM) and a Phonic FireFly 302 audio card to connect my microphone.

Thanks for your answers.

O+

The answer is yes, but you obviously must have all the effects that you want available. If you want everything "in the box", there are a numerous VSTs available at prices ranging from nothing to very expensive. VSTs of a similar quality to Lexicon and TC stuff don't come cheap, but then again it's really amazing how much good stuff you can find for (next to) nothing out there on the net.

I don't know whether it's an option for you, but if already got hi-class hardware boxes, you can of course interface them with the computer and control them using MIDI. And the MIDI isn't limited to static, pre-programmed stuff like Program Changes, but you can also create for example MIDI CCs based on the your voice's pitch or level.

I don't have any list like that, maybe some others? I don't use that many VSTs anyway, but the ones I have used have mostly behaved themselves. As with any other host, there have been troubles with some VSTs in Usine as well, but as far as I know Olivier has fixed any known bugs.

Do searches on www.kvraudio.com - it's probably the best site for this stuff.

Hi Opositivo,

I have a TC.Helicon too and I don't replace it with Usine. Toooooo gooood (but Usine is toooo goood toooo!).
No VST will do right the same. You have TC.Helicon, you use it.
I mean: preamp + pitch-adjuster + compressor + gate + voices + de-esser + and so on, in a good way, without eating any CPU. And no latency - you like it I know.
I did not found any plugins for live vocal (unless perhaps money and CPU very-very-greedy ones - or sold with a dedicated DSP card). Vocal is too important to be processed by plugins.
If you're satisfied with the patches you've done with your TC-H, you can drive them with Usine.
Just plug a MIDI cable from your sound card to your TC and configure Usine to send MIDI msg to it. If there is no midi-out on your sound card, do it with some USB-to-MIDI device (much more cheaper than any vocal 'almost-no-latency' plugin). This way, you'll be able to change TC patches from Usine, using Prog-ch events (Midi / 'Create MIDI Message' module). Change them with Usine and/or by yourself with any foot-switch controller.

I don't know exactly how to manage with the TC, since vocal isn't my stuff, but process vocal signal first with your TC.Helicon IS the solution. Forget about reverb or delay, maybe, but do as much as you can with the TC. And then, process it a little bit more with Usine (loops + resample + pitch delirium + WateverYouLike). Think about it.
That's what I'm hardly conviced of.

Rgds.

EDIT: but maybe were you asking if you could just replace hardware with software? Well, indeed, not always. Usine and TC.Helicon aren't playing in the same ground, specially for vocal stuff. But they can be 'added', 'mixed', 'combinated', 'chained', 'Wiiremote'... with fun, art, creativity and genius...

Hello,
I use a TC helicon Voicelive and haven't found any VST that would completely replace it.
The best I've tried are Antares harmony engine and MU technologies MU Voice, but an essential function for me is scale editing, and they don't allow that.
... but if you don't need edited scales, you should try it (especially antares for its low latency), it works fine even though it needs a good CPU.
Now I'm thinking about replacing my Voicelive with a voiceworks plus because with usine I don't need the pedal board conception anymore ;)
