So I am having trouble getting OSC receiving and sending into Usine.

I've got OSC active, and when I have "monitor localhost" checked, the OSC indicator will light up when I press buttons on my monome. So I figure this means I am successful. The only problem is I cannot get the OSC send and receive modules to communicate with it.

In addr I have "/usine/press 0 0 1"

so [x] [y] [0 or 1]

for which pad on the monome, and then off or on.

When I press the pads, the OSC indicator lights up, but the module receive light doesn't light up.

The monome uses an app called MonomeSerial to communicate OSC. For apps to communicate, it has to be at the localhost addess 127.0.0.1

All this seems to be fine.

i don't have a monome so i can't say for sure, but looking at http://docs.monome.org/doku.php?id=tech:protocol:osc it appears that thats not the right address to send and receive with?

looking at monome's OSC protocol's shouldn't it be more like:
/40h/press [x] [y] [state]
to receive OSC, and something like:
/40h/led [x] [y] [state]
to send to the monome

again, i could be wrong but i thought this might help :)

Well, I got everything working. Now I just need to think of how to encorporate the monome into a patch.

I am just starting with Usine and I got a Monome and would really like to use it with Usine!
Could you help me with this? Do you have an example I could play with?

Thank you in advance!

hi robbe

congrats you managed to grab a monome. when did you buy it (from monome.org)?

about how to use it.
monomeserial (core software) lets u translate each monome key to a midi note. plus, there is a second midi channel for input to control LEDs flashing. in usine it is easy to have eg. a stepsequencer and receive+generate midi events for every step (each step has in-/outlets).

naturally you could also use one of the ass kicking maxMSP projects or VSTi plugins for monome and add more functionality with usine :)

can't you directly communicate with OSC though?

I got it working through Monomeserial sending local OSC msgs thru localhost 127.0.0.1, and port 8000 / 8080. Then I set up and OSC send module. Sometimes I get an error, but enter your IP and port anyway. Toggle send off then back on. (I get a firewall exception msg at this moment, which i approve). At this point it might not work because of the error msg, but i find that if I reload usine without deleting the OSC send module, then it will be there when Usine loads up again (and it should work now!). If not, try toggling send off and on again, and check your OSC setup.

HEEE Amiga909! Thanx for your answer! I guess I have to play with it!
I bought the Monome from monome.org and already have it for awhile and played with MLR etc. Great!
I am not so much a programmer, so Max MSP is nothing for me, but Usine is!
I am wondering how the feedback between Usine and Monome will work (led's flashing etc.)

Thank you all!

Cheers!

Robbe
