Hello Hermut and welcome !

I can talk about my personnal experience only ;)

I build month ago a Ftir multitouch interface (check Nui group for more info)
-very hard to build and calibrate.
-Not fast, for my musical use (but for some pictures zooming it's ok)
-pretty big! not very portable for a live set ;)
-cheap, versatile...
But i ever looked for a portable solution.

Now i have a Tx2z HP
It's a tablet multitouch
-expensive gears
-fast very fast touching, like iphone(was the major decision of this buy)
-pretty powerful (i can run Ableton live with 4 reaktor instance, Usine and My audiocubes softwares)
-Very portable, it's a 12 inch screen

For the moment i'm pretty satisfy, still a bit buggy under Win7,but no big deal.
And it's just the multitouch debut and some affordable gear are coming( i pay expensive price but i'm a freak gears lol )

You can find some Dell Xt tablet (multitouch) for 500-600 euros on Ebay to

Hope this help you, and sorry for my crappy english ;)

I read today that Silverlight 3 beta has multitouch support.

Albatron's 22" should be coming awfully soon.

Yo guys thank you

i dont want to make music on a laptop cause i experiment to much troubles, i only trust desk computer with Pci souncards.
cause we play at 3 guys on the same computer ( a 4 core always close to the 100 p 100 cpu) runing ableton , reaktor and usine with 11 midi controlers
it s strange that multitouch are only available for laptops and cellphone.. maybe i can buy a dell xt to control usine interface and send the midi out to the main computer. its a "not so bad solution" but unlogical to buy a computer when you just need a screen :)

Silverligth and Albatron seems nice but noway to buy it rigth now but nice stuff.

peace

I agree totally.

I've got an i7 920 running at 4.0 Ghz and quite the odd array of midi controllers hoping to do something similar to what you're doing. It's meant to be the live automated effects processor and virtual instrument nerve center for a band, centered on Usine.

I've got something like 50 pages of notes for what I'd like to make for multitouch. I've been giving it a little too much thought for many years now.

Droool...!

.I got into Usine for other things initially, but with all the awsome new features and the advent of multitouch, I am starting to get the itch now too .
I love being able to grab a knob but oh the flexibility a huge multitouch would offer with Usine! Plus I could ditch my clunky controllers which should give me just enough room to build an entire PC + display and even watercooling, lol, right into the DJ coffin that houses all my gear!
The future looks bright...

be patient,
I'll implement it immediately after the official announcement by microsoft.
the multi-touch technology isn't standardized yet.
the good news is that I'm the first interested because I use a touch screen in my setup...

I note that the Albatron 22" multi touch screen hasn't been released on time.

But the inclusion of little cheap LCD touchscreens in everything is an immeasurable aid to musicians!
It certainly isn't standardized. It doesn't seem to work very well in the txt2z laptops, at least the "gestural" part which is the really amazing addition to the paradigm.

I don't want it welded into a PC I want a brick of 16 of them, with pressure sensitivity like Stantum's, that can be arranged modularly at a whim. ;)

yup, but not sure there are multitouch layer yet, might come soon also. I had one that I broke a little time ago, couldn't resist and rebought one from ebay, (monotouch) cost me 100 e with transport for 15inch 16/9 matchin my MPB. cool back to usine touch interface..

Hermut
I would say they're really accurate for touch (switch buttons, ect), maybe a bit less accurate/tiny latency for fast moving (faders/wy ect) but very descent, for the price im really happy with those ones ffomp ebay, waiting mutitouch technology to invest the market.
I would advice them (from virtual village on ebay, speed delivery, ordered 2 no brakes).

just what you need to know is those from ebay doesn't have covers at all on edge, you need to make yours. I took black cello tape and made kind of "wear" fot may laptop screen i can put off if needed/for transport.cool. type "dalle tactile" on ebay

I trie to pgm a control suface last evening and I surprised myself wanting to move two things at the same time (ie cut one bass while enabling another, old hardware habits :) definitely mutitouch will make usine the ultimate weapon for live.

yes for 100 euros its really nice, to be honest i read the amazon details to quikly, i was thinking it was multitouch .
latency of the sended info is important to me i dont know whats is possible acctualy.

maybe i dont get the perfect full size 0 latency multitouch screen as soon as expected, but it seems possible to experiment few things on a amazon like monotouch, or similar stuff in multi, soon.....

wich screen did olivier use? maybe it s the best question :)

thk you

I have a Clevo tablet PC and an other PC with a MagicTouch from Keytec.
both of them works perfectly and the latency is similar to the general mouse latency.
In fact the touch Driver is an emulation of a mouse Driver.
So, if you think that the mouse is ok for you , your touch screen will do the job!
If not, for example to play a drum patern like on a drum pad (in Aphex Twin way), there is no solution except to by an external midi drum pad.

I can make some drum pattern in aphex twin way :)

i transform a little your big keyboard on a MPC pad like and in Ableton live i put an arpeggio on impulse and hop ! aphex twin like ! ;)

very fun.

For the multitouch, i have a TX2z hp tablet.
For the moment not a lot multitouch software... but if you like image zooming : it's the deal ! lol
stop kidding, i love the capacitive screen cause it's very responsive.

it's coming slowly cool, and seems to have very short latency even with moving fast.
How is it when you move fast on tx2, do ya have a slight latency? (i have on touch layer)

Well, the latency is sometimes random (thank you beta ntrig drivers and maybee Win 7 béta..pfffiou a lot of béta in fact! ahaha :) )

When i play quickly with faders i have some latency but when i push/press it's instantly recognized only a small latency for the first push(when the tablet pc software start)

I hace see on Ebay some pretty good deal on TX2Z tablet ( 500 euros! holy crap! i pay mine near 800...)
At this price i'm thinking to buy a second tablet...or this Dell..."What?" euhh no my banker say me :NO...ok Boss... :)

hehe truely nice piece of gear this little thing.

same here, speed and accurate in touch buttons, but not moving fader fast, arf will still need hardware pots/fadz...
wonder if one day I could really replace them by virtual touch...

ebay: be aware us prices are nice but french customs might catch your product and ask to pay a lot!
I ordered a tc powercore on ebay wich was half price new in us, the customs blocked my package and called me to send them a receipt. The guy's shop I ordered to was very nice and made me a receipt where he put a riduculous price, so paid ridiculous customs ;)
but without him i would have paid a lot!

Wow, I may seriously consider that. Senso, would you recommend quad-core for running usine?? Or should I save $$ and get a dual-core?
Custom Ryzen 5900x MATX build, Win10, Fireface UFX, touchscreen
Custom 2 manual midi keyboard
Usine, Kontakt, Reaktor, Synthmaster, Byome, Arturia, Soundtoys, Unify

wonder if multitouch is coming soon?

http://www.selfserviceworld.com/article_22428.php // Jan 2009
"The IR multitouch product has been modeled after the Elo CarrollTouch IR component line with the tested reliability of millions of screens in active use,” said Steve Haungs, product manager for Elo. “It provides a true two-coordinate report set with more to come in the future."
Both of these new technologies will be available for purchase on the 19-inch and 22-inch open-frame touchmonitors or as components later this year and for Windows 7

from what i heard, the price shouldnt be a lot more.
