I have been working on a new user module that I am very excited about and thought I would post some teasers
It is still a few weeks away from being released but it has reached the point where it is good enough now for me to actually start using seriously. Example one below contains a loop taken from Usine and played once dry, then twice with different settings through the module. Please note that it was only a quick test, I haven't processed it or matched volumes on the patches etc so it is a bit raw and will be further improved before it is released but it gives you an idea what it can do.
So, can you guess what the user module is?? A hint - it is not necessarily the obvious answer...

whaoo, great !
so, it's look like a reverb so i suppose it's not.....?

by bsork
Sounds good!
I agree with Nay - it sounds like a reverb/ambience thingie, but I guess it's something different, or at least not only a reverb.

Really interesting caco!
Could it be some kind of mid/side comp-filtering?

Hello Caco,
Nice new module in fact.
The Martin Eastwood MReveverb is cross platform

The clip above is actually an example of convolution reverb but bsork is the closest with his guess that it is not only a reverb, it is much more than that
I will post more examples as the user module develops further...

some frequency analysis to modulate the timbre ?

by multiphone
Hello,
Nice quiz !
After a second listening on my loudspeaker, i understand better than the first time on the loudspeaker of my net book
I think it's a convolution reverb with a loudspeaker convolution. like the sound of one radio in cave or phonograph in cathedral.
Or something affect the sound color of the source.
That's my answer
Best

Sounds really interesting ! I'd say something with convolution, for certain, but I can't say more. It seems to change the timbre and space around the sound too. But how ?
When will we have the chance to play with it ourselves ?
Anyway your teaser worked : we are teased.

It will be released in the first week of March. I will tell you what it is before then though as some of you may want to do some preparatory work first
Another example using the same sample as before, first dry then wet.

Haha !
The quizz of today !
Yes, it's for sure a creative tools like convolution. Because the result are really different, here we are really close to a sort of "resonant vocoder"
Thanks for the clip.

wow caco,
i like a lot what you give us to ear
more teasing please

By the way you don't have to use the module to process audio as an effect, it can also be used to synthesise audio as well now that I have implemented the MIDI input

Hi,
sounds great!
the last exemple is an oscillator or a waveform? i mean, is it a sample ?

It is purely the output from an oscillator (well nine oscillators actually), no samples were used at all.

Is it a module wich works with spectral modifications?

my opinion : a resonant delay.

Yes, resonant delay with midi input is an option.
This instrument make sort of chords of resonant delay ? And if the delay is very short is like strange reverberation ?
mmm... why not.

headphoner wrote:hi,

Yeaaaah!
It sure is
It has csound embedded in it and can open csound's .csd files.
Csound is probably the most powerful software synth/effect in existence. With csound running in usine you can create pretty much anything you can imagine!
It can be used to create effects and process audio in realtime. It also has realtime midi input support so it can be used to create and play synths etc. There are 4 generic params exposed to usine that are connected to csound's internal buses so you can automate csound directly from usine with LFOs etc. And if 4 buses plus midi isn't enough control you can communicate directly with the embedded csound instance from usine using OSC.
For anybody not familiar with csound it is based on a powerful yet simple scripting language. I will provide some examples with the user module showing how to communicate between csound/usine. For anyone wanting to learn more about csound feel there is an excellent book edited by Dr Richard Boulanger as well as a whole mountain of free tutorials on the internet. Plus I am happy to answer any questions

whaooo!
It's probably the greatest improvement of Usine since usine V1.0 itself !
It will add many, many, many features in Usine.
Thanks for this module, I'm impatient to test it.

whaoo! impressive !
but this means we must have qutecsound or equivalent running in the back or it's totally independent..?
impatient too..

by caco
You will need Csound installed but you don't need it or anything else running in the background, the user module dynamically access the csound .dll files when required via the csound api. Just load your .csd file into the user module and away you go, it runs independantly just like any other module or vst etc.
If you want to write your own csound scripts then qutecsound or winXound are helpful but not essential. Csound's .csd files are just text files so you can use wordpad if you want.
I will upload the first beta version next week. So far it seems to be working fine for me and I am now just writing some basic examples to explain the user module but really it is very simple, it works just like any other usine module

Hi,
can we'll see this beautiful module soon ?
Posted: 10 Mar 2011, 20:40
by caco
It is currently undergoing beta testing by nay-seven so should be ready for release soon
As of today I have completed all the features I wanted to add, now it is just a case of writing documentation, examples, wiki etc and finalizing the last few tweaks to the code. Not too long to wait now...

HI,
i'm testing csound everyday and i'm wainting your module
arrrgghhh!
Posted: 24 Mar 2011, 20:54
by caco
I know, I am the same, I am impatient it release it!!
It took a little longer than originally anticipated as I added in a few new features that my original prototype lacked e.g it can now also output midi so can be used for purely midi effects. Also it can now output k-rate variables through its parameters too so you can use Csound to automate Usine e.g as an LFO or create random numbers, envelopes etc.
Just need to finish the documentation off - I have started adding a page to the wiki documenting the module so you can read that in preparation now and I am working on an article for the Csound Journal that will also provide a good tutorial to using Csound in Usine. I am also adding examples too so let me know if there is examples you want to see or any aspects of Csound you would like explaining or tutorials for.
We are getting closer

Hi,
The new features sounds really useful.
take your time!:)
Posted: 25 Mar 2011, 10:45
by caco
Yes it now has audio in/out, midi in/out, in/out through its six generic parameters and can send/receive OpenSoundControl so lots of ways to interact with Csound!
All the coding is pretty much done so I am finally getting to use it to make music and it is great fun to have this level of control over Csound in realtime.
Usine + Csound =
