Nice article.

But here's a quote from it, which mentions exactly what bugs me the most about Hollyhock II :
There are obviously things that could be improved: The animations with the mouse (highlighting the function being hovered on) are too fast, which sometimes makes you doubt whether you are actually where you want to click or not.
Though the reviewer forgets to mention that the mouse cursor doesn't change when hovering above buttons and menu items, which makes the experience even worse...

I'm a new user to HH, so perhaps I shouldn't complain about such a detail (compared to the grand and utterly awesome scheme of HH's functionality), but as a GUI designer by profession this just makes me cringe and shudder every time I open HH. It even annoys me so much -- especially since this is such a basic and well-accepted feature of every mouse-driven Graphical User Interface since eh... forever -- that I can't force myself to getting to learn the application better.

Please fix this so I can start actually using HH.

cheers,
_g

Have you put this in as a bug report?

Yeah, I had the same reaction to the mouseovers in HH1 and yes I made a bug report back then ;-)
It totally defeats the features purpose so I disable it first thing.
A mouse over makes sense if it highlights the stuff you hover over (as pretty much every website in the world shows) so you know what you will hit when you actually click. The implementation in HH doesn't do that but just adds visual fluff that has absolutely no point.

But even with the quirks, HH is really worth diving deeper into gd2!

Nice review btw. ;-)

Cheers,

Tom

This a hundred times! At first I thought there was a problem with HH. If I hover and the color changes, I expect that color to remain, NOT to "blip" for a moment and then go back. I keep thinking I've overshot the button and move my cursor back.

Even though I know it's the intended behavior now, it still confuses me from time to time, which is really an interruption to my creative "zone". :-(

Hi, just checking out Usine Hollyhock2 demo and this is really promising! Very nice tool for experimentation!

I stumbled over the 50% introductory offer some days ago - how long does it stay active?

And yes, this flashing mouseover animation also makes me feel that I miss the target :-)
Would be good if there was an option for elements to stay highlighted when hoovering...
I switched this off in: settings/global/performances/enable mouse animations.

Mmm I do not get this hovering problem. Maybe I'm missing something.

Thanks for pointing out!

Do your elements constantly highlight when you hover?
I thought that it's ment to be a feature for touchscreen users instead of a bug...

Well yes I do if I have the Mouse Animations preference set to ON.....

Have you turned it off in Setup?
