Hello,
I'm a new Usine user, and I would like to setup Usine to sync with my friend's Ableton Live 5, in an accurate & stable manner so we can eventually do tempo changes etc. For now we just want it locked & not drifting. Just want to setup a simple workspace that syncs for now.
I don't mind slaving Usine, but it would be nice to be master one day due to the great capabilities of the Usine Sequencer.
I use a Remote SL which generates MIDI Clock & has MMC transport capabilities.
First I would like to slave Usine & the computer (running Live 5) to the Remote SL. Later I'll try slaving Usine to Live.. I also have at my disposal an Akai ASQ-10 (MPC60 sequencer) which I might incorporate at a later date, which has many clocking options (believe it uses MMC & MTC - have to check at home).
What I did last night: Turn on MIDI clock & MMC receive in Usine, fed a MIDI signal from the Novation SL into Usine (with clock on & MMC configured) and nothing happened. Am I missing a critical step? Any thoughts on the best approach?
I'm still learning Usine & exploring the Add-ons. Thanks everyone in advance. Cheers!
A separate issue, but I'm not sure how to test the jitter of the MIDI clock output on the SL vs Live vs the MPC, but I believe I read somewhere that Live 5's MIDI output is not accurate or delayed.. so I'd rather use the hardware to generate the clock. Anyone happen to know how to test jitter?
MIDI Sync In/Out How To?
It might not be of much help, but you can find a couple of MIDI clock patches (in and out) in the Add-ons. The clock out works ok, but I know the clock in patch isn't too good. (I know I should've done something about that a long time ago...)
Usine doesn't directly support MIDI clocks and Song Position Pointers directly; that's why you have to use patches. MTC is just a way of transmitting SMPTE/EBU time code as MIDI messages, while MMC is transport commands as start and stop. Some of the MMC commands (start/continue/stop) I believe are the same as when you sync using clocks, but the time code is related only to time - not bars and beats.

Definitively, we have to add sync modules as standard sub-patches of Usine!
send & receive Midi clock, song pos, etc.
Actually only MMC and MTC work in Usine (see setup/midi in)
