First, thanks for such a great product. It's really opened up possibilities for me I never considered before since it's half instrument, half automator. Plus the community is great for ideas and support. I've been playing for 6 months or so now and finally put my money down for the paid version today.

For me, my biggest challenge in using Usine is that I don't see well, so the patch editor is a challenge.

Random thoughts below.

Interface -

Nest Popup in a popup in a popup maybe by assigning a serial number to the popup like you do on the switch/button groups?

WKP files in browser with their own path.

I'm trying to get the hang of the grid for placing objects on the layout but boy is it a challenge. There's got to be a better way. Seems like a larger grid setting helps layout a bit? Maybe set a larger default grid size and put the settings in ctrl-f5.

Drag-select multiple objects in patch interface - maybe you refer to this as 'selection rectangle'.

Arrow keys (or something) to gently adjust the position of unlocked opjects in the IB.

Color themes/skins/edit layout for the patch builder or global to the whole app so that those of us with bad eyes could change the contrast or increase font size for input labels and maybe increase the wire and connector sizes

Sync the color schemes in the layout editor so that the schemes in different patch objects match and appear in the same order in each different type of object

Set a default color scheme so that new objects can be added in the scheme without further editing.

Automation -

Array input for buttons and switches so can automate based upon cycle or bar number for automation.

Editing -

Right-click option on wave display to open the sample in Audacity or preferred program for edits, then update file when returned.

Enable link to LAME for MP3 samples and output.

When you drag an object around on the layout, if the mouse pointer leaves the window that holds the object, then the object is moved to a default location.

Auto-connect patches by selecting two objects and right-click, menu - connects midi or audio or both. A way to access the default/new workspace behavior.

Ability to MIDI learn controls for steps so that they can be used in lieu of faders. Steps layout easier.

Speaking of - labels for step lines?

Vertical label text? I think I see it in the pat files but I haven't found it in the layout editor.

Refresh/reload patch from browser by right-click on patch in patch editor or button in patch object for when a sub-patch has been updated outside of a workspace..

Misc -

At webstore check-out, country names in native language - had a hard time finding Etas-Unis...

OSC input filter under OSC setup to block or allow specific messages. I think with the Kinect running, it's sending so much data that it overwhelms the OSC receiver. Blocking them early on may help.

Longshot - how about a way to output a Usine workspace as a runtime to VST or self-contained compiled executable - sort of like Synthedit? That shouldn't be too hard, right? ;-)

Whatever happened to Sergio Slicer?

Just bought the paid version and am very much looking forward to using the sequencer so I can record this song I'm working on.

No need to reply unless you want me to clarify or restate in broken French.

Thanks,
- CCQ -

hello,
Thanks for your suggestions.
You will realize that Usine is, finally, a collective project!
Nest Popup in a popup in a popup maybe by assigning a serial number to the popup like you do on the switch/button groups?
Not so easy with the actual Usine's structure. I hope one day...

WKP files in browser with their own path.
I'm not sure I understand, can you be more precise?

I'm trying to get the hang of the grid for placing objects on the layout but boy is it a challenge. There's got to be a better way. Seems like a larger grid setting helps layout a bit?

Totally Agree, sometime tricky, but I think that each panal should have its own grid size? so put it in the global setting is not the best solution?
Drag-select multiple objects in patch interface - maybe you refer to this as 'selection rectangle'.
Already somewhere in my to do list.
Arrow keys (or something) to gently adjust the position of unlocked opjects in the IB.
Good suggestion.
Color themes/skins/edit layout for the patch builder or global to the whole app so that those of us with bad eyes could change the contrast or increase font size for input labels and maybe increase the wire and connector sizes
good suggestion

right
Set a default color scheme so that new objects can be added in the scheme without further editing.
good suggestion

you can do that with a patch. also the Sequenced switch modules is designed for this purpose?
Right-click option on wave display to open the sample in Audacity or preferred program for edits, then update file when returned.
not so easy to implement but a good suggestion.
Enable link to LAME for MP3 samples and output.
not so easy to implement but a good suggestion.
When you drag an object around on the layout, if the mouse pointer leaves the window that holds the object, then the object is moved to a default location.
I know...Many stuffs like that to implement.
Auto-connect patches by selecting two objects and right-click, menu - connects midi or audio or both. A way to access the default/new workspace behavior.
not easy in the general case, but can be implemented with audio flow at least
Ability to MIDI learn controls for steps so that they can be used in lieu of faders.
not so easy but it's a good suggestion.
Steps layout easier.
I know that the step module has a very complex layout
Speaking of - labels for step lines?
one day!
Vertical label text? I think I see it in the pat files but I haven't found it in the layout editor.
I'll implement it soon.
Refresh/reload patch from browser by right-click on patch in patch editor or button in patch object for when a sub-patch has been updated outside of a workspace..
good suggestion

At webstore check-out, country names in native language - had a hard time finding Etas-Unis...
do you mean a paypal issue?

yes very hard because usine's package contains thousand of files. But probably in the V6

I'll post a more precise roadmap for futures versions of Usine.

Thanks for your reply, Olivier.

I didn't see your post originally but when I noticed you implemented a change I mentioned, I came here to thank you.

It was this one - "When you drag an object around on the layout, if the mouse pointer leaves the window that holds the object, then the object is moved to a default location." This is much easier now.

Other clarifications below -
"WKP files in browser with their own path." - Not a biggie. Right now I think these save with the patches. A default path for workspaces may help to organize eaier open/save workflow, but it's not such a big deal.

"Grid Size" - Right now the default grid size is 2. If it were bigger by default (say 10?) or configurable in global preferences, and editable as it is now, it may help the first time user acclimate.

"Array input for buttons and switches so can automate based upon cycle or bar number for automation." - I realize now that the sequencer basically does this though automation...

"At webstore check-out, country names in native language - had a hard time finding Etas-Unis..." - Probably PayPal's problem, now that you mention it.

A roadmap would be cool for the Usine-obsessed.

Thanks again
