How about attaching the scroll wheel on the mouse to a zoom in and out of the patching window?

-it would be useful for getting around a big patch
-could possibly allow for a zoom in to make the connection tabs bigger
-sometimes if the patch window view into the work space slides far from the content, it would be nice for finding your way back to the elements

Also how about connecting the backspace key to the same action as double clicking in an empty space in the patch window so that you can change patch depth without using the mouse?

Thanks,

that would be great, but (i suppose) a real zoom would be quite hard to implement, in a modular particle system i use, there is something i find a good compromise wich is a small window added on corner of patch that act as global map, kind of 'bird view', so you can see if there is stuff out of the screen and quick navigate thru the patch cliquing on it.

Not easy to implement with the actual graphic engine.

I'm not sure I understand?

It's a goo idea, I'll think about this suggestion.

Not easy but not impossible... Let me think about it.

I figured it was probably not do-able given the framework or you would have probably done it already.

Regarding "the work space slides far from the content" - In my case, sometimes I'll open a patch and the window will appear empty. I'll slide around looking for my work but can't find it. It concerns me and plus I can't make changes so I save/quit/relaunch and everything's usually fine. Yesterday when this happened, I slid the window around in a grid pattern until I found the patch contents which is good news, but time consuming.

Thanks for looking at it,

remember you can always right click on any object (on the control panel ) and use the find in patch feature...;)

Yep. Thanks. I often organize into sub-patches which makes it hard to find a top level object. So backing out of a sub patch using double-click brings me back to nowhere. It's not a big deal to me - it works out - but it was a use case for the zoom feature.

Also, you can select all and cut and paste using key commands. You'll lose connections to the parent object but it's probably easier than restarting.
