Currently under MIDI tab of fader/knob or other control module there's option for absolute or relative mode, soft takeover and such. I think it would be good to have similar options for general input (be it from bus or direct wire connection). Absolute takeover would be default as it is now, and relative would change value around (relative to) current value of the control itself. Additionally having amount (or range) value would be handy and visual feedback on affected range from input, as well as track of actual final value.

That kind of thing is actually pretty common in DAW's where you can apply modulations to controls of the device and it looks kinda like this when you map it:

Currently I have to workaround with quite cumbersome patching which results in something similar:

But I'm not sure it's good to have so much patching for each and every parameter I want to be optionally modulated from matrix or elsewhere.

I think having those options on all wire inputs might damage performance since most inputs would not need it.
Perhaps a new module could be produced that does something like your patch, but in a more efficient manner.
There are range faders have 2 ends and a cursor that can be used to show a controllable range, etc.
I don't think there is a range fader in knob format though - which might be useful.

Simon.

Well it's not about wires, but rather about control modules (faders, knobs) that are midi/bind mappable, and the mapping system itself that already is in place and have quite a range of parameters as is. I don't think performance would be impacted in any way. I even implemented similar behaviour by patching around it (as on gif above) with combination of normal fader and ranged fader as you've said, made bunch of controls like that and didn't notice any impact on performance.

also, I've already requested ranged knob here before.

Oh I see what you mean. In that case yes I like the suggestion - good idea.

I'm afraid that this option could seriously impact the overall performances.
But I'll try to implement the soft-take-over on bindings in the next major release.
