this would be fantastic, as i'm trying to replace Traktor with Usine. I suppose this is a matter of convenience.....i have gigs and gigs of mp3's....mp3 support would save me endless hours of having to turn them into waves.

thanks!!!!

In the past Usine was mp3 compatible...
The problem with mp3 is that you allways have to convert the file in a wav form before load it in memory.
I'll think about a solution.

also, I will add the 24 bits wave compatibility! (actually, only 16 and 32 bits wav files can be loaded)

24-bit compatibility suits me just fine- that's great!

What about an option of recording to 24-bit as well?

The next version will be Wav-24bits compatible. (open file and Direct to Disk recording).

The main problem with the mp3 is that the licence is not really free.
There is a "tolerance" for some product.
In Unsine case, it means external products utilsation (blade or lame, encoders). It's not a good solution to be dependant of such a soft.

Be patient, I'll find something.

2 years and 8 months later ;)
Is there now a way to read mp3 directly in the sampler (without conversions) ?

bad news, :)
For me It has no sens to decode mp3 directly in the sampler:
- in all the cases you have to convert mp3 to wave. And for a live environment it cost too much cpu.
- I spent many days to have on of the best sounding engine, and using mp3's is just unbelievable?

ok, I agree about mp3 quality (but just like divx, it depends a lot on the compression quality). It was about my Usine integrated "mp3 player" to play ambiente music before and after our performances, so not something very important. I'll use a VST or external program.

could probably make a nice little digital DJ interface in Usine if we had mp3 support. Not saying you can't DJ with wave files but most DJ's are downloading from Beatport etc, not playing their own 24 bit creations. (mind you, there's already enough software doing the DJ thing, so maybe not worth bothering with)
