I could swear I toyed with using a background back in V4, but maybe that was reaktor years earlier.

Anyway, is there a reason this isn't available? I'm starting work on a skin, now that my setup is pretty stable, and it seems like it would be really helpful to have a single background image for the whole wkp.

thanks,
-eric

I don't know if I can reintroduce this option in the V5.
I'll take a look.

I can find another way to indicate the active channel, no worries.

But I have discovered a real layout problem in working with this:

If you make a parent container the same width as it's child elements, the children will not lock!! They can scroll freely from right to left within the container.

here's an example. Grab the space between the faders, and the children will migrate, even when locked.

I am having this problem with all my channel strips. There is a workaround, but it would be nice to be able to compact the layout more.

Is this an easy fix?

in further news, I tried a grid of '2', and even with a pixel of clear space on all sides, the contents will still move. so my tightened layout is on hold for now......

For me it's normal.
Usine considers that a control panel must keep a margin of few pixels, on left, right, top, bottom. If a control panel doesn't have such a margin, it enables the scrolling.
It has always been like that, and it's good in 99% of cases. So I'll probably keep this behavior.

okay, that makes sense, although i never thought of scrolling as something you would want in a subpatch.

Good thing I am putting everything directly in the IB.... this makes more sense for my purposes.

I would suggest making the tolerance for enabling scrolling 0 pixels rather than however many it is now. It seems the wrong behaviour for this edge condition. This would also allow me to use all the display area on my screen for a fixed display. Right now I have to leave pixels on each edge, or things 'wiggle'.

Another option would be to manually allow scrolling to be enabled or disabled.... for me, scrolling is not a feature at all.

I put an image object in the IB, and it seems to be working fine. I was afraid it would mask the controls, since usine seems to have no sense of 'Z-order", but it seems to know it belongs in back.... so far, at least.....

Okay, update on this one. If I put the background image in the first row of channel 1, it will stay in back. If I put it anywhere else, it blocks objects with lower grid positions. So usine does have z-order....

This is all working nicely, so no need for a background image in the IB itself.

cool!
I have discovered something.
Usine is so large that I can't know everything myself!

I hope it doesn't become sentient one of these days, and take over civilisation.....
