Hello

I have questions about RME Fireface UC, I made a the routing in order to connect 2 softwares, Usine and Ableton Live. (Rewire isn't possible between thoses)
Until now, I used Output Adat 5-6 from Usine to enter in Ableton, and Output Adat 3-4 from Ableton to enter in Usine.
It was ok. (I believe I found this information on this forum, but don't find it again..)

Now I have problems and questions

1 : I wanted an Output more from Usine to Ableton. And with Adat 7-8 or Adat 1-2, nothing happened.
Would you know why? and how to do?

2 : Today, the RME doesn't communicate anymore by Adat. I should replace this way by the analogic I/O (which are not always free).
Would you know this problem and how to solve it?

I did an update on the Fireface USB bit nothing changes.

With the analogic I/O (which are not always free), the sound becomes mettalic, would it be a clock problem?

Thank you

Regards
Gwennaelle

Hi gwennaelle,

Very curious and trying to understand your problem better. I was an RME hammerfall user on my last setup (unfortunately they did not have internal loopback).

So I assume you are using internal loopback feature of the totalmix suite?

Does your original adat setup with 5-6 and 3-4 work between ableton and usine?

With the analog inputs/outputs, quite possibly you are having some doubling up by having it send the analog ports to the master mix as well...this might be why it sounds metallic is that there is doubling of the signal with one slightly delayed being routed back through.

Thank you Sephult

the internal loopback feature, I don't know what is this

My original adat setup with 5-6 and 3-4 between ableton and usine was working during several months, and no more from two days.

To limit the metallic sound, I mute all hardware inputs and software too, this is perhaps better, but not so good.
Would you have this problem with usine? I mean with reaper, the sound is clean, and in usine some of sounds become sometimes metallic, even when effects are closed.

So are you actually using optical cables and routing input to output and vice versa?
I believe on some of the newer RME interfaces that you could specify which ports to loopback internally on the audio interface without having to use cabling. This is what I meant. You might want to check into that.

Make sure your clocking is set right as well in your RME interface settings, Maybe it is sourcing the ADAT as the sync reference, when it needs to be internal?

Sounds like a strange problem, did you switch versions of Usine or did this just happen out of the blue?

I didn't use any cable (my interface is Fireface Uc).
I tried with an optical cable, but don't understand why you speak about vice versa. Would it be possible to connect a second cable?
One moment with the optical cable, there have been some sound but very dirty. And now, no more...
I'm not sure of my configuration in the Fireface usb settings. I send you a photo.
Usine and Ableton are both in 44.1 kHz, 1buffer size 256.
I didn't switch versions of Usine , still on Usine Hollyhock MacOSX 2.0 081b
