Hi all,
this is my first post. I'm a recent Usine user though I've been following its development every now and then for few years. So far I'm enjoying it a lot!

I noticed that when I save a workspace, Softube Modular resets to a default empty patch. Its state doesn't get saved if I quit and reopen Usine. The only way seems to save a Modular patch as a fxp preset using Usine's preset management. I'm on Mac OsX 10.13.6, Usine 3.0.183

Thanks a lot for any help!

Hello and welcome Lib,
Have you try to create a preset for your patch ?
Generally works with plug-ins.

Hi!

Saving a preset as a fxp file works, but every time I reopen the Usine patch it reverts default empty Modular patch and need to load the preset. I also tried to save a patch-preset instead, but it didn't work.
I tested the same under Usine-Windows (latest Windows 10, same Usine and Modular version) and it works correctly i.e. the status of Modular patch is saved with Usine patch. It seems this is a problem happening only with the MacOS version.

There are also other issues with Modular that I noticed, as very high CPU usage (around 20% with 3 modules) )under Usine-Windows and a sort of misplaced GUI compared to where the mouse actions are supposed to be. Under MacOS the CPU usage is better (10% with the same patch) but significantly higher than in Reaper (1%). I haven't checked how Usine and Reaper CPU meters differ, but it seemed to me anyway a very high value compared to the simplicity of the patch (noise gen, filter, vca).

Thank you for your help!

ok, finally found a way to test under Mac, i've test this plugin in 2016 yet, so at first, can't register a demo , but Softube team accept to send me a new ilock for 20 days.
I've test the patch preset and all works fine here? when i reload the workspace , all works fine
check this one

For the pc, i can't test, cause ilock don't want to install on my system ( i use vmware on Mac, maybe why), but about cpu meters, check this page

Hi,
thanks for investigating the issue.

When I open your workspace under MacOS, Usine crashes. The difference is that I have updated Modular as I got a message while opening your patch that a more recent version was needed. I tried various options, also starting from a clear workspace, and got always a crash. Strangely, when I open my own previously-saved workspace, Modular loads correctly but its patch is not saved.

I reinstalled Usine and removed the .plist file, as I thought I might have selected by accident some preference but it didn't help.

EDIT: In my Mac, Modular Audio Unit doesn't crash but its state doesn't get saved, the VST version crashes.

Hi, and happy New Year!
Thanks for the info about CPU, it clarified the issue as a no issue :-)

I kept investigating the problem with Modular under Windows and that's what I've found.
In this picture (taken under Windows) you can see that Usine adds some space below Synth1 and Pianoteq, but the same space is added on top of Modular. That space seems to corresponds to the offset between the image and clickable areas I'm experiencing with Modular under Windows.

Image

Similarly on MacOS (see next picture), you can see, from left to right: Synth1AU's GUI when first added to a rack from the browser, is stretched to fill the same extra space, resulting in misplaced controls; in the centre another instance of Synth1AU after being manually stretched by resizing its window; and on the right PianoteqAU and ModularAU showing the extra space but on the top and white.

Image

Finally in this last image from left to right DiscoveryPROAU, and 2 instances of DiscoveryPROVST, taken under MacOS. The AU version shows the white stripe on the top. The VST in the centre shows how the bank&presets bar is not visibile when the plugin is added the first time, but as soon as I click on the plugins' GUI the bar appears, but the image is partly stretched as in the other examples and the controls are misplaced.

Image

hopefully this helps with the problem with Softube under Windows, and it seems a somehow similar problem is happeningwith other plugins as well, also under MacOS.

Thanks!

I ended up testing Bidule and MUX to host Modular and it seems to work well (under Windows). On MacOS it kind of works, but Bidule's interface is flickering when dragged and crashes fairly often. It seems that in my case the combination of Usine and the plugins I use work much better (actually perfectly) under Windows than on my MacBookPro, so I'm now using only the Windows version.
