Peak detector patch to trigger Random video patch
Hi. Newbie, first post and all. New user of HH too. I am trying to set up a peak detector patch to use audio input (from laptop's inbuilt mic) to trigger a random affect (blur mosaic) patch. Support here sent me a picture of the patch setup, but my version (3.18) only has trigger out not trigger in. It has a generator button on the Random box in the patch where the trigger in is on Support's image. Can someone let me know how to set this up? I realise I might be asking a stupid question or fundamentally failing to understand correctly how to set this up. But I still need help. Please kindly enlighten.
here's example patch

Okay thanks. That's helpful, though I'm learning Hollyhock so don't understand some of this. For example, I'm using the onboard mic in the laptop, so don't need what I think you have set up as a stereo input? Also, some other questions:
1. I don't understand the bypass switch and how to set that up. I don't seem to get the same options when I add that (what is 'Not' module?) and don't understand what to select in the drop down menu.
2. Why the Fader for max on the mosaic module?
3. Can you guide me on understand the db settings on the peak detector threshhold? I'm still getting no visible reaction to audio input, whatever threshhold is set.
4. See pic of my settings so far. What am I doing wrong?
5. My vu meter shows level not audio input in the text in that module box, is that right?

Hi, you have to use full editor instead of quick reply form and drag'n'drop screenshot to the message box.

well, it doesn't matter much if incoming audio will be mono, it all sums up to Peak Detector anyway.Blacktrapeze wrote: ↑22 Nov 2019, 12:02Okay thanks. 1. the 'Not' module gives '1' value (positive gate) when '0' value is input and vice versa. not really necessary to have it, you can just relabel bypass switch itself in ON and OFF states. I've used Mosaic patch from library for starting point, that's how it was set up there.
2. As I've used library patch as template, there already was a fader for pixel size, I've decided to repurpose it as limiter on pixel size randomization, you can remove it or repurpose as you see fit (maybe set up lower limiter instead).
3. I've noticed that when I set up threshold of -15, when I see VU metter hitting -15 or higher (-10 for instance) it doesn't seem to set off trigger, but I suppose that's because I didn't lower the interval value enough, here's what it says in manual: "Minimum time elapsed between two peaks detection." so when I was quickly assembling the patch I've just set the threshold to lower value and that worked.
