Hey all. I'm in the middle of trying to set up a patch in usine in an attempt to replace Traktor as my digital dj software. I'm not impressed with Traktor's fx, and it can't load third party vst's. Traktor is also missing a midi learn.

I'll probably have many questions throughout...so thanks in advance for all your help!

okay. the setup will be built around two samplers. i've just started on the first one.

i'm using the maudio x-session pro as a controller....so far, its quite nice. i have the 'pitch' assigned to a slider and the 'reverse' function assigned to to a button.

now, i'm trying to set up some basic beat matching functions. I'm trying to set it up so i'll be able to nudge the playback position forwards and backwards. I've connected a fader to the input 'position' of the sampler and assigned to a button on the controller. This fader only nudges the playback position backwards. I tried to connect another fader to the input 'position', but it, obviously only pushes the playback position backwards as well.

I'd like to have two faders--one having the ability to nudge the playback position forward, and one to be able to nudge it backwards.

does this make sense? thanks so much!!

Hello,
Normally the sampler position should follow the fader.

if you go left with the fader, the sampler goes backward;
if you go right with the fader, the sampler goes forward;

Notice that the sampler/position is from 0 to 100.

I'm not sure I understand your problem.
You want 2 buttons (not knobs?). When you press one, it goes backward and forward with tho other?
how much does it go frw/bckw?
-a percent value of the sample length?
-a fixed time (1 sec, or a beat)?
-to the begining/starting position?

thanks for the response olivier!

yeah, i know it would make more sense to assign the sampler position to a fader controller but i was trying to make a template on the X-Session and it felt more comfortable using the buttons for this task. When i assigned one of the X-Session's button controllers to the sampler position, each hit of the button would nudge back the sample position in very small increments--usually 0.8% of the sample length.

In absolute mode, when the button is pressed in jumps to 100% of the sample length and stay there.

*Keep in mind that the default fader object was connected to the input of the sample position.....not a button....because i was trying to use one of the X-Session's button controllers to control the forward nudge and another button controller to control the backward nudge--i'd need this to smoothly cover a range of increments from 0-100% sample length.

Its not a big deal, really. I can just assign the sample position with one of X-Session's fader controls.

It does bring up the question though: Would it be possible to have two Interface Design objects connected to the input of the sampler position, and have one of the objects nudge it forward and the other nudge it backwards? Any other possible work arounds?

Thanks man!

hello,
you can connect any input you want to the sampler/position inlet.
The main problem is that in your case tel to Usine witch one is really active.
You can use the "Events/stop event flow" see the manual.
I've just made an example of a simple back & forw button patch

http://sensomusic.com/download/examples ... orward.pat

I'm sure you can improve the actual version and adapt it to your case.

thanks again for the patch...but for some reason, when i open the patch, none of the patch cables are connected....the modules are there, but they aren't connected. I've notice this as well for all of the patches that i've downloaded from the add-on page.

for a newbie like me, it would really help to see which modules are connected to what.....any idea why this is happening?

thanks!

Very strange, normally, the add-on section download should work!
Do you use the 2.4 version?
Is it the same with workspace (.wkp) files?

yep, none of the patches and workspace files that i've downloaded from the addon page have the modules connected.....the modules are present, but not the connections.

yes, i am using 2.4.

thanks

Too funny, turns out this is a bug. Thought I was supposed to just figure it out on my own.
