Hi! I've been trying out Usine a couple of times, most recently now with version 5.x here. Out of the similar modular patching systems I've looked at (Bidule and Audio Mulch), Usine seems most versatile and I can not understand why it is not more popular?

Anyhow, I've been thinking about "going pro". I will use Usine as a virtual pedalboard (VST host and doing wierd stuff with the parameters) in my rockband, since I'm thinking about using a laptop + Behringer FCB1010 on stage instead of a physical (more limited and more expensive) pedalboard.

I've set up the FCB so that each button in each bank sends an unique PC to Usine, whereas the expression pedals sends the same CC on all patches. This is because I don't want to reprogram the FCB all the time, I rather handle the MIDI in Usine (if possible).

Here's the problem: I want to activate/deactivate patches in Usine with the FCB. Up until now I've been using grid mode, but I guess rack mode would be even more flexible. In other words: when Usine recieves a PC I want it to activate either one (or more if in rack mode) patch(es). I've used MIDI-learn on the line select and that works, but only for a single bank on the FCB. So if I want patch 1-1 on the FCB do the same thing as patch 3-2, then 3-2 would overwrite 1-1.

I'm sorry if I make myself unclear (I'm afraid I am), but I hope that you can understand my problem and that someone hopefully has a suggestion for a solution :)

I'm looking forward to joining the Usine community!

Yes, this will work :)
I thought that something similar would be possible, I just haven't looked around much in the different Usine modules (I'm not fully used to the navigation of the Browser either). Thank you very much!

Is it possible to get the names of the patches in your workspace via a module? A list of all the names of the lines in a specific track would be the most useful in this case :)

Hello

Evryone has his technic, here is what I did with Usine as a pedalboard for my tuba.
Five VST (Pitch - Disto - Wah - Reverb - Pure sound) wich I mix for each song.
I made a scene in the conductor for each song (next and previous with 0 & 9), and a preset manager for each scene.
when 1st song : I get conductor num (1) so preset manager 1 is active :
Then when I press a pedal between 1 & 5 it recall a preset (from 1 to 5) and each preset is a mix of the five (or less) fx with different parameters, and each song as five differents fx mix ...
Hope I'm clear ...
I'll send my workspace as soon as it's clean with the 5th version.
En attendant cordialement l'apocalypse ... 100% Usine !!

No, that one just get the name of the current patch. What I'd like to have is a list (or comma text) of all the lines in a track. Perhaps it would be possible to script this? I haven't looked into the Usine script language much yet.

grego mondo > it seems that you rely on your song numbers to manage your effects, but I imagine it must mess everything if your band decides to change the track list order, or add a tune in the middle of the list, because your numbers won't match anymore ?
I've chosen storing my effects adjustments with the preset managers, but I still don't really understand the interaction between conductor storing and preset manager storing, it seems that the conductor storing overrides the preset manager storing... I'm still a bit confused :-|

to la tenaille

you're right, when we change the order, it's a bit trouble, but I still can do :
1 for the first song,
2 for the second
and go to 7 for the third (not so long, just a few more push with the foots)
3 for the fourth ...

or what ever, as I change the conductor with 9 & 0 (prev & next) I still can change my order ...
thing is we have something like ten songs and I use different preset per song ... and this way I keep my order
like :
1 is about Pitch (it can have some Vb or Disto or Wah mix with also)
2 is about Disto (" ")
3 is about Wah (" ")
4 about Reverb
5 about pure sound

ok,
My approach is to also use the laptop as a reminder for track listing ( instead of a piece of paper written with the big marker stolen to the sound technician :-D ) and for the song words.
I've made some researches in the forum and understod that the conductor stores all the visuals, meaning the fader I use to store the PM numbers and that's cool, but also the visuals of the fx (ie bypass or fx level) stored by the PM and that's not cool in my case. I have to re-think my virtual pedal board again ;-)

What happen is I go to song number 3, store with all off ...
and when I have to play, I push my pedal number ...
or you can store a différent mix on the conductor, just for intro and then use your 5 fx ...
tomorrow I'll send my patch (didn't I already seen that before ?)

night
