Is it possible to modify this patch and use MTC QUARTER FRAME instead of TIMING CLOCK ?
Could this make the patch more precise in calculating the Tempo?

yes but you have to deal with sysex....

So that implies (because of sysex being non-standard for every hardware ) , MTC does not have a general purpose implementation?

I certainly thought that MTC was standardized....

is it that it's not in the typical format for midi messages??

MTC is defined as a "Universal System Exclusive Message". These are extensions to the MIDI standard - technically SysEx, but not connected to any particular manufacturer or device. Check out the MIDI messages table.

Oooops!!!

Just browsed some more, and the MTC Quarter Frame message is not SysEx, although "normal" MTC is. Found a description here.

For syncing up stuff in "sequencer/beat box fashion", I doubt that MTC QF is better than clock ticks. For video work - editing and stuff like that - it seems like a much better idea.
