automatic (timed) fader

Hi,

I might be tired but I've been trying to figure out this rather simple puzzle:

Lets say I have a gain module for volume.
Then I have a trigger button. When I press that button I want the volume to slide from where it currently is down to infinity in a given time.

Hi antwan,

I've included something very similar in the next version of the PunchInloops, which I'm afraid I'm not quite finished with yet. I tried several different approaches, but ended up with what I thought was the least "elegant" solution programming-wise (this is a geek speaking, I'm afraid).

I don't have the program here at work and I don't remember too well what I ended up doing so I could describe here and now, but if you want me to mail it to you sometime tonight, I could do that. If you don't want your address here on the forum, mail it to me at bsork@online.no.

Hi Antvan,

To do this you can use either the "data smoothing" module,
or if you need some more complex control, you can "draw" an enveloppe in the "data/lines" module.
You can also check the "enveloppe" modules.

Hello bmoussay,

my first attempt at doing this used the smoothing module, but I found out that the trouble with using that in this context was resetting the values when for instance I wanted to go from 1 down to 0 when the current value wasn't 1. I ended up using two data/lines modules - one for fade in, and one for fade out - but since my drawing sucks I let them have only two values and patched the output through the data/mapper (curves) module with curve set "log or exp" to get fades that sounded ok. To my ears anyway...

Hey Bsork,

Hadn't noticed your reply.
That's exactly what I've done on one of my sampler patches.
I have a "mute button" connected to some of these "fade in" or "fade out" modules, that allows the sound to enter or fade slowly.
The fade subpatch is like you described: lines module -> mapper curves
By the way combining several line modules we can draw quite complex enveloppes.

Didn't have the chance to thank you for your fade patch yet. We were touring. But it worked like a charm. Thanks a million.

I'll try and give a comprehensive report of my experiences from using usine on stage. Generally very pleased. I just need to collect all my thoughts!

Some testimonials of Usine on stage, with the best and the worse. Since Usine is born to be a stage monster, that could be very interesting for all of us. I'll be glad to read your feedback, Antwan, since I'll start live with Usine in a few short weeks.
