Some clicks with the sampler
Hi Guys,
Here's today's subject :
I have to trigger off some samples that start quite sharp. The point is sometimes, I can here a click when it start. Probably, the sample does not start at 0 but few milliseconds later.
I use the sampler of course, I notice I have the same problem reading the file from memory or from disk.
CPU is 50%
On the same sample, sometimes it does, sometimes not.
The Motu 828 buffer is not extreme (256)
The sample is loaded in the sampler a long time ago before being played.
I use a quite old Toshiba centrino 1.5Mhz with XPSP3
I have the same problem on different patches
Have some of you already experienced that ?
Thanks Mates

maybe several things to consider
how do you trigger the sample, with the mouse, midi..?
with a button , switch and directly linked to the sampler..?
you talk about the latency of the sound card, , you can also play with the global speed parameters ( block size specially )
have you same result with all samples ..?
tell us

You Can find a picture of the players part of the patch here :
(There's always a long time between the "File add" and the "play")
I trigger off the player with the mousse.
I'm able to reproduce it on several files but I suspect to have the problem with all the files, it's just, if there enough silence before sound, there's no click or if the sound is really loud, the sound of the click is shadowed. I have to precise that in my patch, even if I played twice the same sound, It is reloaded each time.
With the same file triggered off several times, sometimes it does, sometimes not, and the click does not always sound the same. I really suspect that the file is randomly being read from "somewhere" in the first ms of the sample...
Here's a picture of my set-up :

Sorry guys,
I said something wrong, it occurs that it only happens when the sampler is on "file" and there's no click on "memory"...

no problems!
Hey,
It's getting really wired. I made many tests.
Finally, I sometimes have the problem in "memory" position but less
On my actual patch which is quite complicated, I can reproduce the problem all the time.
I built this very simple patch : here
I have the same problem but if I restart Usine, it sometime disappears...
It looks like a kind of bug with the sampler but I do not have the problem with the regular wav file player based on the sampler... If someone can explain that...

Try to disable the zero cross option, could add a delay .
and you can also try to set your best block size to 128 or less if you can

Thanks for the answer...
I tried but it didn't work.
I also tried with another sound card, same glitch.

last thing : have you this problem with your own sample and with the samples provide with Usine...?

Hello Kenan and welcome,
The clicks are present only in the launch of the file ?
You use stéréo files or four channel files or both ? in the same sampler ?

Hi Chaps,
Ok, I built this patch

You can download the workspace here.
I use the Usine demo file Bass11
Here's the facts on my laptop :
I open the workspace,
I click on play on Track 1, I almost all the time have a click.
Same problem on track 2.
On track 3 which is the original wave player, I hardly never have a click.
Then, If I click again, on the different tracks, I hardly never have some clicks.
Then I reload the workspace and it is the same as the beginning : Clicks again on the first round.
One very important precision on the click : On a file like Bass11, (bass frequency starting very sharp) I can clearly ear a single click at the beginning, and that's the only moment. I really think the sampler sometimes start the sound a couple of samples after the beginning of the file, so not one a zero and that explain this clik.
Now, why do my laptop eats the very first samples ???

hi kenan,
If I resume, you create a simple patch with a sampler module and a play button and you hear click when the sample starts?
From my point of view, it's very basic thing in Usine. And be sure that the sampler module works well in Usine. So let's look in other directions:
- did you check the midi out settings to see if the 'microsoft Midi wave' device is not selected, and create an ASIO conflict?
- maybe the sample is "clicky" itself? did you try in look mode?
- CPU is 50% which is very high for a simple patch like that? It should be less than 2%... So your computer isn't appropriate to live audio? or another soft is running behind?

ok, after a quick check, I think I've found something not very clear when wave files aren't loaded in memory.
I'll try to solve this point in the next release (very soon).
To avoid all pb try to load files in memory.

Hi guys !
I'm back home and I,ve found the new Usine release... That's great !
I made a test with the patch above. Well, it's really better but there's still a glitch and I'm now able to reproduce it all the time.
The sound is not played the same way the first time and next ones (if you reload the patch for example) ! And this is now totally independent of "file" or "memory" selection.
Here's the difference :

But I'm sure our favourite developers will find a solution...

PS : I've veen enable to create a new post in the "bug report" section.
