Hello,

I am very new to Usine, just downloaded the free version today an started evaluating it.

Usine looks very promising, but I am facing a few issues.

I am first interested in the video capabilities, my goal is basically to achieve something similar to the "video interaction" video that is posted on the Usines' home page.

I thus imported a "Video detect" module into a new patch, but then I am stuck: there is no "video input" settings anywhere, and I have not been able to find any information on this website about it: what hardware device is the "video detect" module expecting? How could I configure it, etc.?

When I click on "Start Detection" or "Config" or "Format", I just get the message "Error: impossible to connect to device".

Could you please point me to some resource regarding how to setup video capture in Usine?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

there's a few web-cam who are not recognized by this module..maybe could be the problem
any chance to try with an other one..?
basically there's nothing special to do.."start detection " must let you play with it..

Hello Nay-Seven,

thanks for your very prompt reply, appreciated it!

I indeed use a webcam, more precisely a Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000 . I don't have any other to try, too bad...

Just to know: which one would you recommend?

Thanks again.

When I click on "Start Detection" or "Config" or "Format", I just get the message "Error: impossible to connect to device".
Generally caused when the webcam is already in use by another application.
Check if you have msn or something like that which is running.
Sometime restart your computer can do miracles....

Hello Senso,

I am pretty sure that neither msn, skype nor whatever is using the webcam while I am trying to use it from Usine. And rebooting did not help either.

I quickly checked with other applications (such as reacTIVision) and correctly got images from the webcam.

Are you relying on a particular service, library or framework?

Regards.

I have no explanation about your problem.
The video tracker is a new module and I know that I have to improve the device compatibility.
I'll do it slowly but surely as we said.

I only use windows stuffs to capture video flows so it should work with a Microsoft camera... =)

Just a question can you open the "format" and "config" dialog with their respective buttons on the module panel?

thanks. Ok I'll look for updates.

Regarding your question: no, as I said, when I click on the buttons of the control panel, I got the error messages (in the "console" on top).

Regards.

hello guys once again!

well first, thanks for V5!!! :)

would it be already possible to create a sort of webcam sequencer with this module? something similar to this one (http://www.backin.de/gumball/)??? because recently, I tried to create such a thing and then I noticed that V5 is able to capture video!!!! hehe, that was such a great news for me! :) anyway, what do you think?

cheers

the pb in this kind of stuff is the calibration. Probably the gumball guys spent 2 years to calibrate it for something not very flexible(?)
So the answer is yes you can do it with Usine but will you be patient enough?

well, I think i would be! hehe

btw, for me it just needs to detect, whether a gumball is in the hole or not... so, just black/white detection... but anyway it's great that it should be possible! so, gonna try patching something now! :D thanks again, for this great great piece of software! :)

well, i just have a problem: do i need for example 16 video detection modules (with max. 1 zone detection) for a 16 step sequencer?!? or could I need 2 video capture modules with max 8 zones detection?!?

well, I still try to write down a small conceptional paper... and after reading the module reference guide, I'm a bit confused... so could someone please help me creating a general concept?

thanks guys and have a nice day! :)

i think i will use the light zones mode detection
then experiment some math module to the zone x outlet
something like if x zone = 0.2 so --> pass of a pass module1 , if x zone = 0.4 so --> pass of a pass module1
?
not sure it will be easy..

To make your life easier it might be worth considering using something like vvvv (www.vvvv.org) as that's already pretty well documented for something like video detection, then use OSC to transmit triggers etc from one to the other? Even a video noob like me got face detection working in vvvv straight off the bat... High contrast recognition should be pretty easy as well.

But if you stick it out with Usine I'm *REALLY* interested to see how you go - not sure I could help much though as I haven't done much of it myself.

Thank you very much, for your input, guys!

I gonna check vvvv now, because I really have trouble figuring out, how it could be done in Usine... I mean i don't give up and maybe someday the day comes when it makes click in my head... ;)

Thanks again, for your efforts!
