How about a usine OS? This is just a thought i had and would like to see what others thoughts on this are. I suppose it could be done with usine + wine on a custom lightweight linux distro. The only development required would be to make usine work smoothly with wine. which may be hard, I dont know. just a thought. any thoughts on this?

The main pb with linux +wine is the compatibility of ASIO drivers so don't expect miracles...

In this idea, I'm thinking more about an Usine framework.

I understand about the ASIO incompatibility. As well as Firewire instability. I tried for years to get a firewire card to work with wine with no success. The framework idea sounds very interesting. I'm assuming it will be a framework to develop applications or plugins?

Hi,

Well, I tried to run Usine with Wine and the act is that the software runs, i have no sound yet, but soon maybe!
We have to install wineasio and the Asio SDK on Steinberg's website. I will try next week. But the problem is the graphics. Wine's graphics is ugly, maybe I didn't configure it well.

I'm running Ubuntustudio 9.10.

i have gotten usine to open just fine with linux/wine but the problem is usine doesnt work with wineasio. so there is no sound. this seems to be the only issue. maybe if usine could use another sound layer besides asio it would work?

it's a war between windows/macos/ubuntu but soundcard manufacturer not devellop driver for linux and pro soundcard (example rme) don't run in linux (no driver).

senso> usine is working with VMware Fusion (80$) and Mac OS?????????????

soundmind> if you don't know try vmware or virtualbox with an extra tiny lite version of windows (with nlite or vlite) and the driver asio4all if your computer is buy with a licence.
Do not forget that lot of freeware run in windows xp also (with visual basic, visual c++, java and windows default component) ;)
