I've been poking around in the demo directory hoping to see how the preset module works. Haven't found anything yet and ingenuity hasn't helped me either. Wondering if someone would be kind enough to explain how to set up some list boxes or buttons to change presets for my VST / soft synths.

TIA

In short, the preset manager should store all the parameters in a patch, whether it's a Usine fader or a setting in a VST.

Click the little "s" and then one of the numbers and you've created a preset. Use the same procedure with the "c" to clear a preset. To recall, just click one of the numbers. Selecting an empty patch won't do anything. If you want MIDI or key control of the preset manager, you should create a list (the default) or a fader to the num input and control it that way.

If you want more presets than 8, you can just add more of the modules. MIDI/key control and displaying text would however demand more programming.

okay i was under the foolish notion that I could store the names that are already in the presets of the synth. Foolish me :).

Not really a problem in Usine's world!

Try this:
Create a list module from the "Program" Input of your VSTi, you know... Ctrl+Drag.
Disconnect (or not, depending on what you want to build) this list and reconnect it to the Preset module.
If it's more than eight names... Well, copy it for each Preset Module and trunc it every eight names?

At the beginning, I was trying to have all on hand, ie. the 256 patches of Absynth, stuffs like that. Very big patches and huge worskpace.
In fact, it's much easier to create small patches, as many patches you need, and to activate them when needed, on the time line or in the grid. Now, I do one WSP par song. Very quick, and comfortable to play.

But I don't think there is a "classical" way to use Usine. Each of us had to find his own way there.

Cheers.

Thanks people. The information got me started at least.

Now Absynth took a dive on me , Usine completely exited without any error message (at least in the interface). However, Vincent I'm wondering if your on Absynth 3.0 or earlier. With the new Kore stuff in 4.0, I believe the only way to pull out presets that are already in there is via Absynth playlists. At least this is what I was told on the Absynth list. Otherwise all you see is disabled though. As far as creating new presets not sure yet.

Now, I also tried CronoX (LinPlug) and opened the interface and chose one of the banks. Yet when I connected the list and preset manager to the "program" stub I got what I assume is the first bank and presets (at least in CronoX alphabetically. So I'll have to play around with that one a bit more to see what I can do.

Absynth 3.0, yes.
You don't even need to have a ListBox connected to Program. Works fine with Usine's presets. The only thing is that if you display the VST, you'll see that the first patch (#0) seems always selected. It means nothing since the patches are actually changed with the Preset module.
And all CC work fine, not the same in FM8...
