It seems that they are audio related but I'm not sure what's going on nor is the log file showing anything. Basically I'll save something, a workspace or a patch and exit Usine. When I open it again, nothing is working. The sequencer won't move even though all the settings are the same as when I exited. I did notice in the directory there are files ending in ~. Not sure if those should remain after I exit the program.

Hi stuartambient,

I'm not sure I really can find what's on...

a. The ~ files are backups. Usine makes a new backup each time you save a patch or a workspace. It's not a temp file, you can use it to recover a previous version of your work.
(I had the pb: see this topic of mine!)

b. When you launch Usine, it starts with exactly the same stuff it was when you quit. This workspace is not the one you saved, but an automatically saved file, called "Worspace.wsp", in the app root folder. That means that if you made changes in your workspace after saving it and quit without saving, the saved file will be OK, but not the one Usine loads at startup (which is the Worspace.wsp in the root folder). Just make Ctrl+O and open your "real" workspace.
If you don't want Usine to load this file, just go in File/Setup/Interface and unclick "autoload".

Hope it helps.

I've disabled autosave and will see what happens when I restart the program.

Is there an "autosave" option in your version?
Ooops, you maybe talk about "autoload" ?

Yes, apologies , I meant to say autoload. Still disabling it, exited the program and then starting it again I struggled to get it to work. No sound, piano roll wasn't moving. Setup file was fine. No error messages in the console nor in the log file. Fortunately this time I was able to get it working again without re-installing. Not sure what I did really :).

Hi stuartambient!

Some basic stuffs we use to easily forget at the beginning (so many new stuffs!):
- Start audio engine (in the dashboard)
- Put the track ON (in the mixer out of the track)
- Start the synch (in the sync panel beside the dashboard)

It could be useful to tweak some KeyLearn or MidiLearn on those basic actions.
My Keyboard Remote (just an example):
- Ctrl+Space Toggles Usine's Audio engine
- 1 to 0 Toggle Tracks 1 to 10 mixer out
- Space Toggles Synch
Not sure what I did really :).
Yeah, somewhat confusing at the beginning since Usine's philosophy is not developed for "office work" (making tracks at home) but for live performance (live your music and make people li(o)ve it).
Fresh, unusual but much more effective and enjoyable!

Well maybe I need to read up more on the philosophy. However playing some of the demo workspaces I got a sense that making tacks is certainly a part of it and the uniqueness of the program, mixing patches, etc can make for some entertaining sequences. Having just moved and not being completely unpacked yet my keyboard is still in the box. I'm hoping to have that out soon so I can add that improvisational side into things.

When I moved, 5 years ago, the three first things to be out of the boxes were 1. the computer, 2. all the bottles (and a glass) and 3. my keyboard...
I think my soap must still be somewhere in that heap...
