In trying to use the grid more I have encountered a couple of limitations that I think could be improved easily.
The metronome settings for a grid item are impossible to adjust with the slider.
It would be best to be able to type a metronome marker setting directly into the field for a precise tempo. As of now the slider is cumbersome and almost impossible to dial in a specific tempo.

Second more options to copy the current grid line/ duplicate insert new grid item at a specific location would be great.
Some if the copy and paste features from the old conductor would be nice to have back. Editing the grid can feel tedious at times.

1) I'm not sure I understand: you can use the double click to edit a precise value?
2) I have to improve the edition the grid with stuffs like that. be patient.

Hi,

I was going to create a new thread but the forum wouldn't let me, so posting this here because it is regarding the grid....

I've been using hollyhock for a few months now, but am struggling to get the grid working in the way I would like. I will have a rack which contains a piano roll patch, and I drag the rack into different grid elements. As the grid is playing and moves to the next row, I would like the piano roll to change to a different file number. A couple of ways I have tried to do this:

1. Using automation in the grid to change the filenum - basically use steps with num_points = 1, and just change filenum that way.
2. In the rack use the preset manager (ie. i change the piano roll to a new filenum then save that as a new preset), and recall that preset in the grid element.

Both ways I find are flaky at best: with automation it seems to sometimes lose its value; using the preset method the grid will move to the next row as it is playing and the preset is recalled correctly, but the piano roll doesn't change its filenum.

NB: Patches and their elements have 'saved in preset' enabled.

So, I'm wondering how other people are working with the grid to change piano roll sequences, or whether what I am doing is fine but there are known bugs with the grid?

Thanks.

welcome cephei, yes there's an anti spam procedure which ask you to answer a post before create a new one..

About your question, you don't need the preset manger in this case a simple fader on the num file inlet and automation line on this fader in the grid will work .

here an example

Thanks for the reply. Yes, originally I was changing it with my own little piano roll patch (basically a horz fader on the numfile and setting it through an automation lane), but I found the automation was forgetting values (ie. zeroing it out, or alternatively, would go into some weird edit mode where it thought I wanted to change the value, so moving the mouse would then bork the value up) ... bear in mind, I was using this approach with an older hollyhock version, so not sure if there was a bug or not which has been fixed since then. Out of frustration that is when I tried the preset approach, but no luck, even with the latest update.

Trying your example however, things seem very stable and the numfile is changing correctly, even when drastically jumping the current grid line about. So pretty promising, and I will start using this approach again.

Thanks again.

I was double clicking on the wrong part. I was clicking on the numerical bpm not where it says tempo.
I'm glad it is working.
