I had asked a question in this post the other day and am stoked that it should do the job, but all of a sudden I am having some peculiar midi issues.

When I load usine, I make sure my keyboard is setup as an IN Device under Devices. I drag it to my rack as an IN device, load a plugin (say Synth 1) hit play and press a key. No sound. The MIDI input bar at the top is registering incoming data with the blue meter flashing when I play, but there is no audio out through the rack or usine master.

Confused. I built another rack with an instance of Arpiix and Synth 1, just to see if I could produce sound at all, and I get audio out with this.

before this problem I was able to easily build multiple racks all with my MIDI input and play every instance with no additional patching so I am at a loss as to what may have changed suddenly. I was trying to edit the presets on my MPK Mini for channel assignments, could this have anything to do with it?

I figure if usine registers midi input it can't be the keyboard that is causing the problem, but this is all still new to me. Thanks for the help.

* I was just looking at the patch created for the midi IN Device and the midi 1 plug status is no midi, even though usine is registering data input.

the fist thing you can try is to activate the trace midi in the setup/midi
now you can check if your Midi hardware send on the good channel ( most VSTi ask for channel 1 )

you can also click on a Midi wire to see this trace

looked at the trace, getting correct on/off messages all coming in on channel 1. I am getting sound now, not really sure why. Sometimes there is something funky with the ASIO4ALL driver, if another application that uses the computers soundcard is running and I didn't realize it.

One question. Under the devices section you can change midi channels for the midi device. I assume this is for setting different devices on different channels, what does the no change setting mean exactly? That usine uses the channel the device has preset?

Thanks for the help, with more questions to come, I am sure!

yup, 'no change' keeps the original midi channel that's specified in the midi packet.
