Best way to apply comments to songs?
If I switch a song in the conductor, I'd like to see some comments I've made for that song.
So far, I have added a new track only for comments and the patches only contain 'Text (comment)' modules. As the 'visible in control panel' option is sometimes too small I like to see the comments in a floating window. If I select 'visible in window' I have ALL the text windows from the different patches at the same time on my workspace which is a mess.
I'm thinking of ONE floating window that updates everytime I choose a new patch/song. Is this possible or any other suggestions?

You can connect the text outlet of a List or Combo box to the comment module and change and store the texts like any other value.
Besides, the new version has separate interface builders for each patch, so you might want to try that one out.
While I'm at it: Remember that you also have the possibilty of concatenating strings (Strings/Cancat Strings) and that there's another module (User/Display Number) tha can come in handy when you want feedback of some sort.

You should enter the text per song as 1 line each in the combo or list box, and when you store the setup in the conductor, the current selection in the combo/list (and hence the text in the comment module) should be saved together with the faders and all the other stuff (unless it's setup to not be stored in the conductor, of course).

Ok, this basically works, but as the List and Combo box modules are actually designed for lists (=one line for each item), my comments now appear in a long horizontal line in the workspace because I think there's no way to force a line break?bsork wrote:You can connect the text outlet of a List or Combo box to the comment module and change and store the texts like any other value.
Not a good layout....
Any other suggestions or am I doing something wrong?
Hello Nofish,
There is some vst who can to do what you want.

You're not doing anything wrong. I discovered by accident now, though, that there is a way to add line feeds:
If you for instance want two lines in the comment, create two combo boxes and two concat strings modules. Connect the text outlet of the first list biox to string 1 on the first concat strings, and write as many commas as you want line feeds in the string 2 inlet. Connect string out to string 1 on the second concat strings, and the second list box to string 2. Then connect the string out to a comment module.
I'm pretty sure it would be possible - at least with a script - to make a more elegant solution where you could scroll between different texts entered as comments, but I don't have time for that now.

Oooops!
Sorry, Nofish, but I guess I've made things far more complicated than neccessary: As long as you restrict yourself to 16 comments, just use a Data/Selector and connect the various (invisible?) comments to 1, 2, 3..., a fader to the select input, and finally out to the output comment module.
BTW, everyone else but me might have noticed this a long time ago, but the comment module actually also have inlets for visible, colour and size - not only text. They are just not very easy to see...

The local interface builder is a good candidate for a comment popup?
otherwise, just for info,
I'm thinking about a property window module that could be added on a patch.
- patch type
- keywords
- description
- comments
Also It will be coupled to an improvement of the browser, with a small search engine. I start to have more than 1000 patches in my library, sometime I'm lost...

Sounds like a really good idea. I'm far from having that many patches, but still I have problems finding the ones I want.

I think this is exactly what I'm looking for!senso wrote:The local interface builder is a good candidate for a comment popup?

I'm a Keyboarder in a band using Usine and so far I have made all my comments to songs on paper old style. Takes time to search and imagine you loose them one day...
So a property/comments window would really be great. I think the important thing would be to have ONE overall property window that gets updated with every patch. Preferably resizeable, chooseable textstyle (fat/normal/underlined...) and textsize.
