Automating piano roll numfile in grid

Hi all,

Not sure if I have missed something obvious or if there is a bug or not, but in hollyhock 1 I created a little patch with a piano roll and horizontal fader which I could then automate in the grid so I could play different midi files as the grid was being played. In HH2 this doesn't appear to be working for me now.

This is what I have done:

* Create a rack and create a new patch with a piano roll in it. Connect a horiz fader to numfile so we can change it.
* Drag the rack into a section of the grid, and then drag the rack a second time into the following section
* In the first section get the numfile curve appearing and changed to a 'step' type. Change it to numfile 2
* Ditto for the 2nd section and change to numfile 6
* Play the grid and change between the sections ... notice how it doesn't appear to be changing the numfile at all.

Is there some sort of synch or activation mode I am missing? Anyone else do something similar with midi and the grid?

Cheers.

mm,
maybe a small bug here, i suppose you fader values are 1 to 8 , try to use a fader from 0 to 8 and tell me

btw, you don't need to drag the rack on each section, you can also expand it to the 2 sections ?
here an example working here, even with a 1-8 values

Hi,
I tried the workspace you provided and it does work correctly when you drag the rack over to the next section. However, if you drag a completely new instance of the rack to the next section in the grid (instead of just resizing it), it isn't correctly triggering the numfile change when that section begins playing. So I thought it might have been some sort of activation problem, but I added another curve for a plugin and it correctly changed value when the grid entered that section.

Glad you got it figured cephei!

Yes the curve features and the new grid in HH2 make automating soo much better.
You just need to remember there is a curve section in the settings when you select a section.
It will show available things you can automate, and you just need to enable them in the section.
Just a small learning curve....bu dum chhhh....hahaha

Sephult, appreciate the pun :-) but I think there is a bug. It does seem to correctly trigger on the rare occasion when the section is entered, but most of the time it will not, esp. if I go back a section then go forwards again, and vice versa.

I think the automation possibilities are pretty cool, but things are a bit flaky for me, which is understandable because everything is new. Another possible bug re automation is when you tick a new parameter to automate in the available list (on the 'List of curve's tab), and then immediately select the 'Curves tab' button - that parameter is not immediately available to do things like changing the curve type. I have to click off and select a few other things and come back to get it to refresh so it is available for config. Perhaps it's my setup, but there are a few refresh issues for me.

The patch editor itself seems to have refresh problems as well. If I have previously connected a knob or fader to a parameter and then have re-opened the workspace, when I edit that patch again, the knob is no longer directly connected to the correct input - the connector is just connected to the top left of the module.

I didn't really have these sorts of issues with HH1, so I thought I should mention them.

Cheers.

Most definitely cephei!

I needed a little bit of laughter this morning as well! Even if it was a small cheesy one :)

Test Num File 2 - Not Activating Section 2 Change

I duplicated the issue you are seeing with going back. I too was unable to get it to activate the change in section 2.

I am wondering if the patch activation (subsequent to the first section activation), is happening just a little too late and misses the initial setting of the curve.
Almost like the patch activation needs to happen just before the section starts so that anything that starts on the beginning of a section can be triggered.
In the past I had issues regarding missing first triggers or hits of a sequencer when activating a patch in the grid. My assumption is this is what is happening.

Your Issue regarding the update of the Curve settings and having to click elsewhere and re-enter..... I was also able to recreate.
I too have ran into issues at some times where the settings will not update directly and will have to re-click elsewhere when it comes to patch editing.
Here assumptions too that maybe if this is corrected in one spot, globally updates would be fixed?

I would put in two tickets: One for the Grid Section Update, and another for the Settings not updating unless you click elsewhere and re-enter.
I would make sure as well to reference this forum post to help with more detail regarding.

Yeah I think I'll go ahead and log the bugs in the morning. I've had issues in the past with triggers not firing correctly on the occasion, esp. right at the start of things, so perhaps it's linked to that.

Hi,

I'm a new user of Usine, i find this software totally crazy and powerful. But there are still some few bugs that bother me.

When i'm trying to send midi notes from a piano roll section to a vst there's something wrong.

In fact, the first loop of the piano roll in the grid never play correctly, I have to wait for the second loop to hear something. It's like the trigger doesn't work.

Do you have any solutions for this issue ?

Thanks and keep up the good work.

I have been demoing hh 3 and have come across this issue with triggering num files in the pianoroll also, needs to cycle once before it picks up midi note on 1st beat of the bar, can't figure out how to fix this.
