Audio out via interface and iPad

Hi there, I'm completely new to Usine, but I don't seem to be able to get audio out via my PreSonus AudioBox iTwo interface. I'm selecting it as audio input in devices, but no joy. So at present the only audio out I can get is from within Usine itself - no external audio at all. Any suggestions?

Not sure to understand your question
if you select your sound card as input and as output, must work ?
in the title of your post you talk about Ipad , you select it as output ?

When I select EITHER ProSonus interface OR iPad as INPUT, neither work.
ok, i understand for inputs, but if you use the soundcard as input and as output, your sound-card works normally ?

When I select EITHER ProSonus interface OR iPad as INPUT, neither work. In other words, I am trying to input external audio (e.g. microphone) through the PreSonus interface, or in the form of music apps from my iPad. In all other Daws I use (Ableton, Renoise, Garageband, etc) I simply select PreSonus (or iPad) as input, and then output to whatever 'sound out' device I am using, and it works. With Usine, I get no sound whatsoever.

Yes, if I select soundcard for in and out, then it works; but that only allows me to use audio native to Usine (no external audio/instruments/apps, etc)
ok, thanks to precise this point.
so the hardware solution can be to run your ipad in the 2 input of your soundcard ?
the software solution is to create an aggregate audio interface where you choose first your ipad, then the sound card. Then choose it as input and as output in Usine.
with this solution the ipad will be the first 2 inputs , then activate the outputs 3/4 in the setup and create a new device for this outputs ( this correspond to your soundcard in second place)

I'm not sure what you mean by the 'two inputs of my sound card' - I'm using the PreSonus as a hardware audio interface. Thanks for the suggestions, but either I'm doing something wrong, or this doesn't work. For the software solution, Usine tells me (after I have set up the aggregate device) that it doesn't recognise the iPad. But in any case, why do I need to create an 'aggregate' device, why doesn't the software just recognise it (as in other DAWs)? And why can't I get sound in via my PreSonus interface?

Also, if I keep selecting 'iPad' as input, the programme crashes.

I think that maybe there is something I don't understand about the way audio sound cards are configured in Usine. When I connect and select the PreSonus interface (as input) there are two inputs and four 'outputs' available: output left, output right, front left, front right. When I connect and select the iPad (as input) there are eighteen (!) inputs available, and the same four outputs. Which should I be using? Thanks
Not easy to help cause you have a specific soundcard , as far i understand your ipad is directly connected to your soundcard, right ?
i try to read the user manual for this model, but there's many instruction for Windows, but very basic for Mac...
maybe you can start an appz on the ipad and activate all the inputs/outputs and see if you have levels in Usine ?
An other user tell me he use this appz, maybe it can help ? AudioMux

Thanks. Yes, it is Audiomux that I'm using. I am seeing the levels indicated in Usine, but no sound! I am using a Macbook Pro.
ok, so i definitively need to find an ipad to test this configuration...
about the hardware solution , if your soundcard has good pre -amp you can link directly the ipad out mini jack to the 2 input of your soundcard?

Okay, can you tell me what you mean when you say "2 input of your soundcard"?
?

That's correct, yes. I have a cable (exactly like the one you show) from iPad to two inputs of PreSonus. I then select 'Presonus' as input in devices, and my output (which is USB to my hi-fi set up - same as always). The levels show that there is input, but there is no sound.
understand that currently you have to select your soundcard as input and as output in Usine, this you'll have sound at least on the headphones ?
Then, if you want to link your soundcard to your hifi system ( not always a good idea) , you can use its main hardware outputs

Okay, I've just tried this, I have sound card as input and output and have sound in the headphones. But now the sound is not passing through Usine at all but just directly through the sound card. So, if I add an effect in Usine, it does not affect the sound at all!
and you have added your audio input device in the rack input ?

other explanation, if you have a mix software with your soundcard you can check its levels

Yes, exactly like this. Interesting though - I just tried switching the mix on the PreSonus, and it only has sound when switched to 'input'; when on 'playback' it has now sound.

I know - but I am still getting no audio out from Usine!
i understand
so forget the ipad for the moment, i suggest you to
-unzip a new version of Usine, rename it or start it directly from the download folder.
-set your soundcard as input and as output
-run one of the demo workspaces

There surely must be something basic I am doing wrong. This works so easily in every other DAW I use - simple and straightforward!

Yes. I'm guessing that Usine doesn't work with the IOS Audiomux (or Midimux) software, hence the iPad can't send sound (or midi) to Usine.
