Hi all,
I'm new to Usine Hollyhock, i just started trying to get under the hood here and dig in, so please forgive my ignorance if i am missing something obvious!

I've been reading a bit on the forums concerning how to use/customize using midi controllers with Hollyhock and it seems like the processes of assigning knobs and faders to control plugin/patch parameters can be pretty complicated depending on the device?
I have a Novation SL37 keyboard midi controller (USB2) and am using a mac with Yosemite. It works partially out of the box - the keyboard on the controller works and automatically slices whatever sample i throw into a rack across the keyboard. The knobs/pads/sliders however are not assignable, meaning when i press a pad/slider/or knob/press a button the MIDI led in the master panel/device panel/rack device are not lighting up in response.
My questions are - - -

1) Is there a midi controller that i can purchase that will support the "midi key learn" function of hollyhock that will include knobs and fader support, without having to go under the hood/manually build a patch to get a knob and faders to track?
OR
2) am i missing something obvious that will make the Remote SL's faders accessible using the "midi key learn" button?

Thanks guys! Great software

Hello and welcome,

no, the Midi learn in Usine is quite easy

what you can test:
-in the setup/Midi tab be sure your device is selected and active.
- Activate the "trace midi in "feature" in the same tab
-open the trace panel ( the icon pen) and move the knobs on your controllers, you must see MIDI messages like midi in : 176-05-43-(CC) [Chan=1]
-If yes, activate the MIDI learn ( with the menu icon or [ Ctrl/cmd+M] ) select a knob on a patch and move your fader, stop MIDI learn, assignation is done

hey nay-seven,
Thanks for the quick reply! Okay so activating trace mode was definitely the step i was overlooking. assigning keys/knobs and faders is now intuitive! For some reason however, my novation sl37's knob section (faders work/touch-pad works/keys work) don't work/aren't assignable/don't register in the trace panel. Is there something i can do to try to get hollyhock to see the faders?
Thanks so much

I don't have this controller, but reading the manual, i see there's differnt templates, have you try some of them to check if faders appears ?
I hope also for you this is not the same problem that their nocturn controller which is not working without automap

Quick question...being novation does this require automap server to be running? You said the keyboard works but not the faders right?

hey guys,
okay so everything is working now!
Nay-Seven, I had tried changing the templates without effect. This morning i updated the sl37's usb driver and then reinstalled the automap universal software. I reconfigured it using ableton live as the host software and it started working -
Thanks so much for the help! cheers
