Some thoughts about the VST version
(ive posted this previously at kvr....but on a second thought i think this forum is more appropriate...so here it is a copy + paste of the original kvr post)
" renoise cant see it as a VSTi ...only as a VSTfx. is this correct ? hope not.
i dont like the fact that there are two "windows" in the vst (usine opens in a second window outside the vst host / sequencer). like that i have to click two times to see usine's gui. i was thinking to use usine mainly as a plugin chainer . a plug chainer in my opinion should be "invisible" to the user, so that when you click the chainer you will see immediately the guis of the plugs that the chainer is hosting (like in energyxt's window docking). guess ill have to keep searching for a ext replacement.
if im overlooking something please tell...i might not be using usine in the best/right way.
anyways, thanks a lot for the free version. "

I'll take a look, not tested yet with renoise.renoise cant see it as a VSTi ...only as a VSTfx. is this correct ? hope not.
Usine is a very large soft which can't be resumed as a simple "Rack chainer". Usine is designed to add a real Live performance layer to your favorite host.i dont like the fact that there are two "windows"...
As Usine allows the design of personal interfaces (like 'display what you really want to see on the screen') for me it's not in its general philosophy to hide the main screen?
The real question is now 'what is the difference between a normal host and a Live oriented host?'

I totally agree in that the main screen shouldn't be invisible - using Usine as a VST ot VSTi is more like rewiring than using a chainer or plugin rack type of thing. I myself prefer to switch between host and Usine using the taskbar or Alt-Tab.
@hcv242: If you want to turn several plugin GUIs on and off at the same time, you can create a button within Usine that opens and closes as many GUIs you like with a single click.

Also, you can assign the 'show button' of usine to a vst param or make a midi learn directly on it...
Now imagine what you can do on stage with a dual screen sytem: on screen for your main vst, another for usine....

Hi All,
Not trying to derail this thread, but this is a first post and the forum limits new topics until I've responded to an existing thread. New dumb question coming.
Thanks,
John

Hi,
does anyone know if it is possible to "create" a vst(not vsti) multichannel version of usine vst?..for exemple with 6 ins and 6 outs?
thanks a lot!

Actually Usine is only 2x2, but designed as an audio wrapper, router. It means that you can create a real surround project in a simple stereo host. All buses in Usine are 8 channels.
Anyway, I plan to create a real 8x8 vst version of usine very soon.

I try to explain:
i would like to use it as a "shell" with fxteleport.
I'm working in a surround setup so i need a vst version with 6 ins and 6 outs.
have to wait so?
thank you!

I'm nout sure you need a 6x6 version to use Usine as FXteleport.
use 3 instances of the 2x2 in your host an a stand alone version on your distant PC.
then communicate with OSC over the lan.

I know what you mean,i think we are talking about the same thing.
The reason i'd like to use fxteleport is because it is more automated.
From the master machine, recalling your project, automatically you can load the vst on the slave machine with it's presets. All in one step.
As you suggested(i think) you have(after loading the project in the master machine)to load usine stand alone(on the distant pc)and then load in the preset of your project...and..with fxteleport is more simple to set latency: just drag the latency bar when you have to mix with heavy load..instead with 3 istances have to set latency for all of them.
..as last question:if i do an "export mixdown" in nuendo(as exemple) with OSC will it "see" usine standalone as a plugin or it will be possible to do it only in "real time".
Let me know if i'm wrong about what i understanded about OSC...
thanks,
Samuele

I could think about a way to communicate between several Usine over the lan, especially to send a workspace to a slave.
You are right, the 'render' function will probably cause problem with lan, except the real time render like in Pro Tool or x1 in Reaper.

Wow, great news!senso wrote:I plan to create a real 8x8 vst version of usine very soon.
When used inside a capable host, this will enable using Usine VST as a modular patching center, relying on the routing features of the host when piping audio in/out of it (instead of loading multiple wrapper plugins on different channels). In my opinion, this makes it much more user friendly to pair with environments like, say, Ableton Live. Just great.
This will rock
