Hello
A friend who owns Usine has told me that there had a module which could use a constant audio input signal to trig the Usine tempo.
Is it right (sorry, i am stil a newbie, waiting for a french tutorial or a vst plugin to dive into Usine little by little...) ?
If so, how do you do ? Is there any PDF tutorial available somewhere ?
When the VST version of Usine will be out, will it be able to use Usine as an effect to convert audio trigger to the host's tempo (with Live, for example, or Reaper) ?
My idea is to use pre-midi drum machines playing basic stuff (or sending trig out messages) to control some hardware midi synths...
THank you
Cheers

There's a Tempo Detector module in the add-ons section
as well as, if you need it, a module that sends a track-specific tempo to just one track regardless of what the master tempo is.

To download the add-ons you need to be a Gold Member, but I can assure you it's well-worth it.

As to tutorials - the best method I've found for myself is to periodically re-read the various pdfs and try the tutorial projects. Usine is so deep I've never *not* learned something new.

Ok, thank you Runagate.
Could you tell me if such a thing woudl be easily doable with Usine without too many headaches ?
- i send a "trigger message from a synth or a pre-midi drum machine to one input of my sound card (as trigger is like ON/off, audio input should do the trick, no need for a specific input format).=> it goes into one Usine's track, with that tempo detector module ;
- the tempo detector module sends tempo information to the whole project tempo, (and can be updated quite accurately in real time is needed ?), so that the other channels which are all midi tracks controling external hardware synths keep in sync with the prehistoric hardware drum machine...
Should i end up throwing my gear through the window untill the end of the day, crying and moaning, or will i have a huge smile on my face hitting the Mattel synsonics pads like a dumb and listening to my synths play in time with it ?
THank you for the info !

Yes it works fine, especially if your trigger is simple, or is a 'basic' groove.

ok, thank you for the info.
... and... what about the rest ? I mean, the first part of the routing seems easy, but is it easy and efficient to route the tempo detector to the whole project's tempo (and keep it synced quite accurately) AND also to have some midi clips on other tracks (or one instance of EnergyXT, for example) which are routed to hardware synths ?
Best reagrds

Hello,

I'm a drummer and i'm playing in a "post-rock" influenced band....

If i'm a triggering my bass drum and snare ( linked directky to the input of my soundcard, or sending midi notes, controller through an electronic drum module), would the Tempo Detector module allow me to control Usine tempo and have midi clips (playng also hardware synth and triggered by another midi drum pad for exemple) staying synced to my actual playing tempo?

If so, i'm going to dive into Usine...

Actually the tempo detector works only with audio flows.
It's a good idea to make a midi version (which will be probably more precise)

I'm just testing the tempo detector...How could i scale the tempo detection to avoid some kind of BPM peak? It happens with grooves none so basic...

looking deeper in the patch you can adjust the tempo range somewhere...
and the average time of the detection (to get a smoother curve)
I can't really remember where; I'll take a look.

I've found where i could adjust the tempo range...it's in the last fader (named tempo) in the patch...

Is the average time of detection in the sub-patch beat detector, through the fader name duration?
