NewB question
Hello
I'm a new french user and i'm trying to use Usine (great appz!) as a Voice multiFX.
Don't known if it's the best way to use Usine :
- I have one track (My Voice Mic)
- On this track two patches : One with delay effect and one other with distortion
- I have two snapshots : snapshot 1 (for delay effect) and 2 (for distortion) that i'm controlling with keyboard.
When i switch between "disto patch" to "delay patch" the delay start automatically without playing something...is it possible to really stop the sound when switching between thoses patches ?
thanks
DX

I've had the same problem. My solution is to cut the sound before or/and after the delay module, but leave the delay active instead of bypassing the patch ; that way you cut the delay in and out together. If you want to keep the tail of your delay for a smooth transition instead of a sudden stop, then just derive the audio in directly to your patch audio out.
The thing to remember is when you bypass your delay, it keeps the end of the echo in memory.

So there is no solution to really stop a patch when switching to an other
Thanks for your answer...but same problem with the reverb...strange...don't understand why...

perhaps you'd better put all your effects in a same patch, and remote a selector placed between your audio in and your effects ?
That a good idea but in this case all effects in patch are active or only the ones in use ?
seem to be be a little bit hard for a newd like me

If you are used to hardware pedals (like boss pedals), just imagine that, instead of footswitching it on and off, you plug and unplug the jacks.
In a Usine patch, the pedals are your FX, the audio wires are your jacks. Now visualize the audio flow going from left to right in your patch : on the left is your instrument (audio in) and on the right your amp (audio out). You can wire everything the way you like (serial, parallel...), send your disto in your delay and then in your reverb for exemple.
Then you have a lot of modules you can put between your instrument and FX, or between FX, or between FX and amp. You can find these modules in the audio library (crossfaders, selectors, etc...).
Then you remote these modules with faders or switches, using the midi learn or key learn.
The best for you is to experiment. This solution seems complicated compared to just dropping FX in the patch grid, but gives more flexibility, and more freedom.

ok i think i understand the idea, in this way :
- Patch = Pedal board (all effects with selectors)
- a song = a patch
Can i ask you an exemple for just two disctincts sounds (a delay and disto for exemple) in a patch ?
I would like to use a fcb1010 with Usine.

I did this first, then realize I didn't need to make a patch per song and re-use the same plugins for each patch. For example you can put a preset manager in your patch and use it to store the FX state (all the VST parameters are stored). Or/and you can use the conductor to store your songs (including the preset manager state for example).- Patch = Pedal board (all effects with selectors)
- a song = a patch states with it.
I'll try. The trouble is my Usine is on an audio dedicated laptop (no internet, no picture softs). Can i ask you an exemple for just two disctincts sounds (a delay and disto for exemple) in a patch ?
I'll try to find a solution.
I use a Roland fc-300 (close to the fcb1010) and it works fineI would like to use a fcb1010 with Usine.
Hi guys,
just a small precision: on the delay module, you have a 'clear' button.
Since delay keeps audio flow in memory (and delays it!), when you deactivate the patch, the delay module keeps the stream in memory, waiting to be reactivated and then... burp! that old stuff goes out.
so, before deactivating it, try to 'clear' the memory.
You can make your scene (snapshot) click a button connected to 'clear' inlet of the module or connect it to a 'Module/interface controls/On activation' module. Or both, I don't really know.
The secret is to clear the delay stream.
cheers.

Hello DX,
The simpliest way for you is the following :
- on track 1, just the voice input, an EQ and a compressor if you need in patches.
- on track 2 : the delay (input aux 1)
- on track 3 : the distorsion (input aux 2)
- on track 4 : the reverb (input aux 3)
On the track 1, put aux send around 0dB and mute all sends (it's a new feature I asked for to Olivier some months ago, it is very usefull in that kind of configuration). When you want a delay, unmute aux send 1, then mute it when you want it over, same thing with the distorsion and the reverb.
Then you can simply make some great FX on your voice. Imagine you want a word to be repeated many time, but just one word and you continue to speak with the distorsion, put a good feedback on the delay, unmute aux send 1 on the word, then mute it and unmute the aux send 2.
You can also put the distorsion in the delay with the same action, the delay in the distorsion... Be carrefull with feedback
Remember you can make midilearn or keylearn on the mute button. Try the two mode, absolute and toggle. In toggle mode, until you press the key, the aux send is unmute. Very usefull for the delay.
I often use Usine like a crazy big multi FX in live situation, it is the way I follow and it give very good result.
Enjoy
Sylvain

Hi everybody.
Vincent > do you know a similar tip for VSTs (cleaning the buffer) or is it just for the included FX ?
Sylvain > Nice alternative ! I haven't tried the aux yet. The thing is... I have 10 instruments, 10 in, 10 out... does it mean 40 tracks if I want to use 4 effects per instrument with your solution ? And what about the routing ? Can you change the chaining on the fly ?
DX > this is the world of Usine : 3 users, 3 methods
Now choose the method that seems the more natural to you and don't be impressed by the huge possibilites. Usine is like an incredible hardware unit you build yourself.

Hi everybody,
@Latenaille: hum... how to clear buffer in VST delay? well, well, welll... That's a good question!
@Sylvain: since your config seems to be exclusively for voice you could also put all your EQ, compressor and gate directly in the in master section: a) that save a track and b) since master section is always on, you never loose mic, whatever you do with your "in-track" patches, even when you load diferent workspaces.
happy new modulyear!

DX, I've made a patch called "Simple parallel Multi FX" that could meet your needs. I've put it in the add-ons but just realize you're not a gold member and don't have access to the add-ons
So mail me (clic on my name) and I'll send it to you.

@La Tenaille,
My Config is not for you in fact, but maybe.
On each track, you have four aux, but they are the same, so if you have an instrument a on track 1, an instrument b on track 2, a delay on track 3 with aux 1 as input, you send the instrument a to the delay with the send aux 1 on track 1, and the same thing with send aux 2 on track 2 for instrument b. So you can have 10 instruments, and four tracks more with four different FX. (just 14 tracks, not 40)
If you want different FX for eah instrument, it's better for you to put it on each track directly.
You can make the routing you want, and you can change the chaining on the fly, you can have different FX fo the aux 1 and choose what you want (probably the problem with the buffer is always the same.
@Vincent
You're right, but in fact in my config, I don't care about the voice, I use outboard for mixing, and Usine is just a big box of FX, I don't mixe in the computer, I always need analog controls for my stuff (EQ, Comp, mixing....). For now and for my ears, digital can't replace analog, it is very usefull and it purpose some incredible possibiliies (like Usine), but I need analog before and after in the sound chain. But it's another topic
Good night everybody
